Well, it's been a long road, but I finally got my flybarless Pantera in the air. I haven't had the chance to really do much with it as of yet, due to the fact that I am also breaking in a new engine on it and getting used to a new radio system as well. I will say that the FBL adds alot to the smoothness of the hovering and you can actually see and feel the speed difference in cyclic movements. Between the FBL and the new radio system, the Pantera is almost fly by wire fast and stable. I will post more to this thread as I get more flights on it.

Grips, swash driver? Which unit; Probar, Skookum, V-bar? We need PICTURES my man! How tough is the learning curve on dialing in one of these systems?

Man, I was feeling all spiffy with my new flybarred head.

Skookum
Skookum gyro,Gohbee blade grips,31 mm extentions from the shop,RJX aluminum tail grips,RL 53 engine with 3d pipe, swash driver is modded Pantera pcs(thanks to Gus)soon to have CF tail boom and supports. The learning curve isn't as bad as I thought it would be, the default setup is pretty spot on. I am itchin to get it up and throw it around abit but still in the tuning phase on the engine for now. I will say one thing for the first flight of the year(actually since september of the last)I don't have near the the nerves I normally have for a first flight. Hopfully some pics soon.

I found this at RREModels, looks to be a cost efficient unit for a flybarless setup. I'm thinking really seriously about giving FBL a shot.

Haven't done much with it lately...
It's been kinda rough here as of late, mom diagnosed with cancer, daughter lost her job(i'm on 2 of her notes),cut backs at my job (personel and wages), youngest daughter busy with after school projects, you name it. I also have a new Fury Extreme that is being flown when I do get to the field. Plus I build and tech for the LHS. So not really much time to do devote to any one thing.

Do you find that with the system you are having to give a bit more input on landing as she gets into ground effect?

I wish you and your family the best. My Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic and liver cancer this year. So far the chemo is holding it off. Yup, cancer sucks but hang in there, the Pantera family has you in their prayers.

The overall stability of the Pantera increased a bunch with the FBL system. It handles very nice(as if the Pantera really needed it, because it doesn't). The nice thing about the FBL is the infinate adjustability that can be done. You are no longer set to just the fixed ratios of a flybarred head. Once you get used to the settings and adjustments that can be made, you can tune the head for your personal style of flying and make it as mild or wild as you would like with just a couple of mouse clicks. I see that the Skookum now offers a mini LCD screen(like the mulitgov)so that you don't have to drag a laptop to the field, major plus there!
