Is the Futaba GY401 good enough for use in a 50 size scale heli?

Thats the way to go. About as "plug and play" as you can get. A few simple adjustments and you are off.

Its plenty for all but the most demanding 3D where its weakness is piro consistency when fighting or being pushed by the wind.

Its more than enough for scale.
