That-a boy. No matter what lipo battery: always balance with 2 or more cells. It simply is not an option. Lipo manufacturers themselves even say so. 3 years and it finally cost an entire heli.

Sorry to see this. It sucks big time to lose any heli but one that's supposed to be safe on charge has to hurt the most.
this lipo was the align one coming with the 2 in 1 regulator from align.
Thanks for the heads up. I'm using this same battery even after the original one that came with the 2 in 1 arrived puffed and DOA. They sent another just like it out to replace the puffed one.

Advice on a replacement lipo would be appreciated.

I doubt it was the LiPo that caused the problem but the charger.
I always use a balancer when charging LiPos, it is the safest way. If you have a blonde or a senior moment when setting the charger the balancer will soon tell you that you screwed up and stop the charger.
I don't know of any reason a LiPo would go crispy on you apart from over charging or physical damage by impact or something, of course a short circuit does wonders for them but it is unlikely to happen if it is sitting on a bench getting charged.

Im using an outrage 2500mah on my 600N, fits in the tray nicely, more amps and no complaints to report.

Strange, I'm using the standard Align 1900Mah 7.4V Lipo and it has a balancer connector on it. I'm pretty sure all Align lipo's have balancer connectors.

Some of the older 2S rx LiPos from Align had no balance plug. They all do now.

I seriously doubt that a balancer would have prevented that unless it was an inline like a LBA10 or a V-Balancer that can disconnect the battery from the charger. A seperate external balancer can only bleed voltage off at a 3-500mah rate depending on which one you have. If you were at a 1C charge you were charging at 1.9 amps, if its the 1900 pack, which is far higher then what the balancer can take out. Bottom line is the charger didnt detect the peak and overcharged it.
I had this same issue with the Hibbico field charger and it burnt up a set of NiMh batteries in my transmitter and melted the trans case. Almost completely ruined my trans and my truck.

Always remove your batteries!!!!

Back to the topic,

A NEW CHARGER! - Look into the Hyperion line up, great chargers!
600NSP
8717's or the 610/620's are a great choice for the $$.
Spartan is a great gyro and several people at my field have them
and love them.

Was just searching the classifieds and found that Trex700Flyer is selling a few V-Balancers.

The problem was the charger, I tested and now is not working properly even with NI Cadmium batteries, I retired the charger, I'll look at the Hyperion.
I'm removing my batteries now, the only thing I hate is to remove the LIPO that I have on my DX7, I'm afraid removing the batteries to often will make the connector to fail.

You could always pull the pack and lay it next to the heli or trans and still keep it plugged in. At least then the heli will be safe if it fails.
