The G2 is a “tapered blade” meaning the root cord of the blade is longer the tip cord of the blade by about 10 millimeters. The G3 is a “wide cord blade” meaning an even cord fro root to tip. Most guys are running the wide cord or "G3" because they give the helicopter plenty of pop and are great for 3D.

Will the G2s work for 3D? Absolutely! The trend today is for the wide cord blades because they give the helicopter certain characteristics that the tapered blades may lack.

The G in G2, G3 stands for Generation.

A constant chord blade like the G3, while a little bit slower in max FFF speed, offers many advantages not only for 3D but almost all flying styles. First, the outer half or even 1/3 of the blade is doing most of the lifting because the blade(tip) speed gets higher the further you go out on the blade. Thus in cases where headspeed may be lower such as at the end of autos or in aerobatic autos, we can expect a constant chord blade to maintian lift more predictably and to a lower head speed. A constant chord blade will also deliver more collective bite at a lower angle of attack because, once again, you have more blade area further out at the tip where it's needed to generate lift or, in 3D terms, more pop without necessarily needing to go to excessively high collective pitch angles to get the model to move as agressively as you would like.

Dr.Ben...that was a most impressive explanation. I was going to say they auto like s***, which now seems totally inadequate.
