Hello. My skills consist of hovering from all 4 directions and FFF.

I have a Raptor 30 v2 with OS37 and was considering a governor. By no means am I ready for 3D, so will a governer help me with sport flying? I just hear how it is important to keep the headspeed regulated and was wondering if this would help?

Thanks.

A governor is not required. It makes life easier. As your skills progress you will spend more time flying and less time tweaking your throttle/pitch curves.

Most definately. However, you should have a general understanding on throttle curves so you can have a backup in case it fails.

For the type of flying you describe, there is little advantage to a governor over good throttle curves. When you get into loops and rolls, you will also want to have cyclic to throttle mixes. While a governor is very nice, and lets you get by without learning how to set up right, I think this is a good thing to learn and the governor is definitely not "necessary".

Nice to have but far from "required"

Kind of like an automatic transmission for a car.

with a good throttle curve and some program mixing you can dial in the heli to run damn near as good as a govenor.

i just setup a new 50 on curves, program mix for tail (5%), program curve (commonly refered to as a bucket mix) for ail & ele->throttle (12-6-0-6-12%) and in 3D and sport flying, aside from very slight overspeeding when unloading the head, the headspeed sounds consistent throughout the flight envelope.

I felt that it'd be nice to get the model to run as best as possible without adding more components. So far, it's been performing superbly. Yay for curves!

in the beginning stages, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. A governer is nice and I use them, but when you have a problem with the machine and is just another piece of a the puzzle to work with. Sometimes a pain if you are not utilizing it. Once you get into mild 3D, then I would look at one.

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

Governor or Not
I have governors on most of my nitros and don't really use it, even with hard sport flying (flips, rolls, loops, inverts ect.). A good throttle/pitch curve setting has been all I needed.

Thanks for all the input, guys. I'll wait until I'm ready for 3D.
