can somebody that has crashed a 700 and damaged the frames and replaced both side frames bolt the old frames onto the outside of the 700 frame to see if stiffening up the chassis helps/cures the main gear striping issue
we have found that the 3rd mainshaft bearing block, ali clutch bearing block, adjustable mesh doesn't cure the problem

anybody up for this?

i'm using the std gear with adjustable mesh
and i meshed the gear tight as the gear wasn't round
when i turn the gear it has a slight tight spot
i know mechanicaly this is the wrong thing to do but i wanted a good mesh on the free side

at the moment we can't get them in the uk
as the one shop who is said to have them in stock hasn't yet listed them (and due to my working hours i can get over to pick one up)
but i'm going to use a mod 1 gear from the maker of my ali clutch bearing block when they are finished and fully tested
so i hope this cures it
if not i'll sell it

it seams that some have the problem others don't (or they don't say they have)
some gears last longer than others, who knows the real reason? i don't
i would get some spares so that if/when the gear goes you can fix it quickly and go and fly again without waiting for spares to arrive

i check the maingear before and after every flight

I have over 85 flights on my 700, no crashes...I just stripped a main gear after working on 4 point tic-tocs. My gear failed in an inverted climb just as full power was reached. I just heard a couple "zips" then I just switched to normal mode and landed.

Only a 1/2 in. wide area of the gear teeth were missing, and it was just the upper 1/2 of the teeth. My pinion and bearings are just fine.

I just installed a new -1 gear, it fits perfect. I had too much backlash with the stock old style gear. I was really working this new gear hard today, no problems so far. I personally would not even use the stock gear on a new kit...too much backlash.

Align should just just make a larger toothed gear and pinion, and call it fixed for good!

Tighten up the mesh & allow engine/clutch stack alignment.

Remove a little material from each side of the clutch bearing block locators, & replace the Align stepped bolts in the clutch bearing block & engine mounts with standard M3x10mm cap screws & the recessed washers from a T600n.

Simple quick fix with no mods except to the plastic clutch bearing block. (What's that $5-$10)??
You will then be able to adjust the mesh & alignment.
No more problems.

Why Align designed a 90 sized helicopter with no adjustable mesh is beyond me.
I doubt very much that JK had the last say in that design.

if you try to move clutch bearing block to get a tighter gear mesh, would that offset the engine alignment too.

mine's got adjustable mesh
and to re-algin the engine you leave the stepped bolts/washers out
and fit flat washers and tighten the engine up once aligned

after a while of flying with the stock clutch stack, the bearing block plastic seems to loosen up, along with the bearings also. This doesn't seem like much but with this and the conbination of the gear mesh being rather loose. They are more prone to stripping the main gear. This is why you will notice that the top of the gear is where it is failing. Hence flex...

The newer version of the gear works fine but for added stregnth to it all, take a look at this. http://tylerbonta.com/page4 trex700 bearing block. Problem fixed...

Good luck,

cJ
