I have a trex 500 with a mikado upgrade flybarless head kit on it. I am currently waiting on my Probar to get here. I decided to hover it today without any flybarless system on it. It hovered just fine. It felt more stable than with the flybar. Has anyone else tried this. Flying without a stablization system, and just a flybarless head? is this normal. And do you have any other thoughts about this.

Chris Bergen was flying a FBL Tazer at Bham with no stabilization. Kinda did some funny stuff every once in a while but for the most part it worked OK.

I didn't think I would try it today. but I crashed my 600NSP and my 500 was having issues. So I took it apart and put it back together with the Mikado upgrade head I had already bought in anticipation of my Probar that should be here any day.

I did not have a camera with me. i will try to take videos some time this week or this weekend. I will post them in this fourm.

As far as flight goes I only hovered it. But. I think that forward flight and 3d would be no problem. I noticed that I would have to bring the rates on the swash down from 60 60 60 to like 30 30 60. the collective range is fine. But it was way to responsive on the roll and pitch.

I will make some adjustments and try it again. From an engineering stand point. It will just be a little less stable. Meaning I will have to give more small inputs than with a stablization system, or a flybar.

Also I need to adjust my phasing just a hair. It was off ever so slightly. Other than that i may put the probar on my 600NSP and just keep the 500 flybarless, without guidence.

do a a couple tic-tocs, pitch pumps, or any piro maneuver and you'll quickly realize why people use $450 mikado units to aid their FBL machine.

I wouldn't do it. Yea, it will fly but what is the point if it flies worse than a flybared heli. You can reduce everything in your radio and you lose any advantage of going flybarless. The awesome thing about the flybarless units is the ability to make limitless adjustment.

Guys have been doing it for years but i believe just mainly on scale heli's. I would think if it was that easy people would be doing it in masses. Manufactures certainly would not want to add parts to a heli that were not needed.
