I'm going to purchasing a new gyro this week and i just wanted to know what to go with. The shop by my house has both the sparten and the 520 in stock. I've heard alot of great things about the Sparten but not to much about the 520 yet. I would like to know what to choose. I'm no 3D master but in the near future would love to. Right now I'm just doing basic rolls and flips.

I love my Spartan! I have not tried the 520 but one thing that the Spartan has which I don't believe the 520 does is the ability to update the firmware. I'm sure the 520 will be a good performing gyro, but you can't update it.

For example, the most recent Spartan update (v2) made some great improvements to the gyro and I didn't have to buy a new one. I just downloaded the update and applied it to the Spartan.

I have 3 of them. One each on my Atom 500, 600N, and Synergy N9. Solid as a rock on all of them!

I've heard
There is your answer....I had a 520 and a Spartan in my hand and faced with the same dilemma....The 520 is tiny except for the dongle is bigger than the gyro......no firmware update for the 520, the spartan is proven to be rock solid.....I didn't want to be the one to work out the bugs in a new gyro. Futaba has a great reputation for making gyros.....but then Microsoft had a rock solid OS with XP then they brought out Vista.....I went with the Spartan.

Customer support for the Spartan is the best yo will ever have to deal with.....Futaba on the other hand is mediocre. YOu pay half price for any thing you send in for repair.....it sucks. their stuff screws up and you have to pay????

I own both and have flown Both. As for right now the Spartan is way better on piro rate. It may be my setup, but so far I can not get a constant piro rate out of the 520 /9257 yet. Fast with the wind slow into it. Same reason that I switched from a 611 to the Saprtan. The Spartan even without the flash link cable on basic setup has a perfect constant rate.

Just my opinion,
I have not given up on the 520 yet though, gonna try it on the 700 first,

also you should consider the mini-g, blinding consistent piro rates and rock solid performance. and the best support in the business.

dont let the 520 push you away. mine is locked in and feeling great. its small, light, easy to use. took me 2 minutes to setup by LED. you will be able to get a USB for it real soon so it will be updateable. im glad i got mine

Will the 520 be upgradeable or is the USB cable only going to be for setup? I didn't see anywhere the mentions it being upgradeable like the Spartan.

dont know why they wouldnt make it upgradeable to keep up with the new gyros. but it is as good as the 611 so far and maybe better once we get the setups right. i dont see why anyone would want better. i like the size ans weight part of it.

My GY520 feels very good on my Freya 90, but I have vibrations I have to get worked out to explore the full potential of this gyro. It is sensitive to vibrations, more than my 601. I can only compare it to a 601, but so far it's more locked in than the 601. I just need to get rid of the stupid vibrations.

When you see the software, still in Beta, for the USB link, all you will be able to do is set up the gyro as you currently do with the flashing light plus fine tune just a couple of other features. Futaba had a screen shot of the update page on display in Toledo. One advantage I can see is that when you plug it in (must be connector to the model and to computer at the same time) you can see where your current setting are, then fine tune the couple of additional areas.

Thats alot to take in. I'm not sure what to go with? I gonna buy on thurs when pay day comes so I guess I'll let this keep goin and see what else comes up. Thanks alot guys for the suggestions. I just want a gyro that........

#1. I won't need to upgrade in the near future for fly'n level
#2. Decent price that I can afford
#3. Easy to setup and manage
#4. Oh yea, and looks cool!

They both seem to live up the challenge.

Question Spartan or Gy520
I tried both, My friend at the flying let me fly their helis that was equipped with spatan and setup was sweet on the heli.

I have 2 Trex 700 N one with 611 and one with gy520.

See if you can try it and make your own mind, you are the one flying it. I can tell one over the other but thats my opinion and my style and abilities and manouvers that i do.

Its like asking you what is better for my lunch burger or burger with catchup?

If you're going to buy on Thursday, I guess you'll be getting the Spartan as there are no GY520's available, unless someone wants to part with one.

either gyro will be more then youll even need. both are great in everyway. most people with the 520 just dont have enough time on it to know what its all about though. id just pick which one you want. you wont be dissipointed at either
