if your running the ei motor you might want to glue the magnet in with epoxy or jb weld first before you even start the motor up.

i hovered my brand new batt26 w/ei motor for maybe 3minutes and then the motor died and wouldnt restart.

i check the rear of the motor and the magnet was missing.

this happened to jimbo flies as well.its a easy fix if you have the magnet to put back in the flywheel.

That would suck to have one come out at 500ft with about 20lbs worth of camera stuff hanging under it..

I always thought the magneto system worked flawlessly and the only issue I ever had was on a plane where you had trouble flipping the prop fast enough to get get it to fire...

Can you "stake" the magnet as well... On most gas engine hubs with the magnet imbedded after it is recessed they put four "stake" peens around it with a punch to roll the metal back over the magnet slightly..

DO NOT USE JB
JB Weld has some metal in the compound mix. I remember using it on a GOV to also hold a magnet in & it screwed up the magnetic field.

SOme one please comment on that....Thanks

WE have magnets in stock...let me know who needs them...

That makes sense about the metal in "JB"..
I used 15minute Epoxy on my EI magnet and it is holding fine..

GIVE IT A TRY...
There is micro balloon or glass bead ground very fine that added to CA or epoxy will secure the magnet very well..

too windy too fly today...25 ++

If I were going to secure the magnet with an "External" retainer I would wrap the hub with either dental floss or Kevlar and then coat it with thinned epoxy...

jimboflies ,
Yup, that would NOT be good.
You were referring to swiping a thin coating of expoxy over the magnet to help secure it in place......

Can you explain "why" it would not be a good idea ?? We do that routinely to help secure the magnet for the governors.....same concept, really.

Is there an issue with the EI ??

I'm not familiar with the setup on that motor but if the magnet is not slightly recessed into the hole, I don't think that "staking" it will help any since no material will be rolled over the top of the magnet.....

If the epoxy method is used, roughen the area where the epoxy will be applied with sandpaper and then thoroughly de-grease with acetone or BrakeKleen so that the epoxy has a good bond......

Juan, i think your right the magnet is sticking up past the face of the part so staking it i don't think will hold it in there. Your right on the mag i don't see why it would hurt it to have a thin layer of epoxy over it? I think i will sand around the mag and clean with acetone and put some epoxy over the whole thing. I tried to pick out the mag but i can't get it out.

Thanks for the info

Chuck you where right it was not to hard to get the magnet out. Iput a sharp hobby knife beside the magnet and took a hammer and tapped around the magnet and it came lose. It only had a little bit of what looks like ca on one side of the magnet,i'm scraping off the glue now and i'm going to sand around the outside of it with sand paper and then put 30min epoxy on it and put it back in. The hole on the aluminum part that it goes in is a little larger than the magnet. I drilled a 1/16 hole all the way thru the aluminum part so when i push it in it will have somewhere for the air to go,i do this on all my gov magnets and i've never had one come out. Thanks for the heads up on this problem. I made my spacers for the pull start today also i will let you know how it all goes.

Thanks

Well i got it all glued up and everything put back together, i think the magnet will stay in there now. On my new order i might go ahead and order a set of magnets for the EI just in case. The spacers i made looks pretty good on there or better than stacked washers.

Thanks again for the tips guys

TQC -TOTAL QUALITY CONTROL
It sounds like Zenoah in Japan has a QC problem in the assembly
section. Every company make mistakes. I am sure Zenoah is not even aware. This could be a common issue with ALL there EI magnet installations. The red loctite they are using is not holding. Why? You would think it should hold...The way they are popping out just using a sharp point the red is too thin to hold.

What should be used is either anabolic wicking or gap filling 638 loctite...
