So I got off work at midnight (after going in at 10 am) and sure enough got pulled over by two cops in separate cars for having a bad license plate light. They made me get out of the car for a pat down, do the hole routine of looking into the light and what not. Kinda weird, at one point they examined my tongue??? They were pretty convinced that I had 'dope' in my car and that I had been smoking 'dope' on the way home. Of course they wanted to search my car but I wouldn't let them. They informed my that they were going to get the drug dogs out however I told them that I'd rather go home and go to sleep than to stand there and let them invade my privacy for no reason whatsoever. I got a kick out of the fact that one of cops asked where I was coming from and after I informed him that it was a pizza joint, he asked me what I had been eating and how long ago.

I wonder if cops realize why no one likes them...

Make no mistake, they are out there to write tickets and remove more money from the private sector. Most could not care less about the public safty, if they did they would offer rides home for people who wre impared in some way. My son was in an accident, he was 19 and had a head injury, in a coma for 10 days, he was the only one hurt and all they wanted from him was a blood sample to see if he had been drinking.

If you wouldnt of gave them reason to pull you over you wouldnt be on here whining about it. They dont pull people over for no reason they have to have just cause. Do you not inspect your lights on your car once in a while? If not you should just for safety. Sorry I do not feel sorry for you most cops have to deal with a lot of aholes and from your post you acted like one to give them more just cause. Why didnt you want them to search your car? must of had some dope in it or maybe a concealed weapon? see where this is going? thats just cause your giving suspiscions to them. If you would of said go for it they may of just peeked in and said see you later fix your light.

There is more to the story then the OP is telling I am sure I been I drove truck all my life and I never in any state had cops act like that unless you give them a reason. Treat others how you want to be treated works wonders start with a attitude with a cop guess what you get it back.

Sorry Mutt, but most of these cops around here are brain dead rednecks and just want to make an arrest. For what it's worth, I'm a third year applied mathematics student at Ga. Tech. and I'm a fairly clean looking kid with nothing to hide and nothing to imply I'm a drug user; If I did, then they wouldn't have asked for my permission to search my car. Did I also mention that I was driving 53 in a 55? Maybe if the one cop would've let me search through her purse and if the other would've let me searched through his bedroom, I would've let them search my car. See what I'm saying? It's not a matter of my trying to hide something (because I have nothing to hide), it's a matter of me not wanting two people who are treating me like crap to paw through my stuff.

One thing is for certain, it felt so good having the right to refuse to let them search my car as I could see that they wanted to so bad.

And Mutt, if you saw that I was on my way home from a 14+ hour work shift (like I informed the cops) then you'd probably realize that I just wanted to go to sleep more than anything.

You're welcome to get a plane ticket and come meet me. I like to think of myself as a pretty nice guy and certainly not as a liar like you're implying. Didn't give them attitude either.

Just curious, what are you trying to get out of this? Maybe you're a cop and are somehow offended?

I totally agree with Mutt. If you get pulled over and you cooperate they won't treat you like they did jphilli. Best thing to do is don't give them a reason to pull you over.

I don't understand where you guys are getting that I didn't cooperate???

I did everything they asked and if they had reason to believe that I was on 'dope' after examining my eyes and what not, they they would've taken me to to the station and given me a drug test. They also had the right to get a drug dog to find out if I was hiding something but they didn't! They didn't because they knew I wasn't hiding anything and rather wanted to pick apart my car to find something else to give me a ticket for.

Maybe you guys have just never met a redneck Ga. cop before...

1. There is always more to the story then told always.
2. not implying your a lair people can give a attitude without knowing it very siomple your tired want to go home get upset because you got pulled over you can get a attitude without knowing it.
3.You must not of read what I said I am a truck driver retired now and NO I am not a cop nor am I offended.
I have been pulled over a couple of times and asked if they could search my vehicle I said sure go for it as I do not have anything to hide. They spent a whole whooping 30 seconds just looking in it didnt paw nothing or even open the glovebox all because I didnt give them a reason to have concern.

Right on jphill. The cops don't have the right to search your stuff if they have no probable cause. That is one of the freedoms our fore fathers fought for. If you don't care than you say OK, but that is up to you whether or not you have anything to hide. If they really thought you had drugs they would have gotten the dog. These cops were screwing with you and you exercised your rights. Some cops are real jerks. I think most I come across are just regular guys/gals that do a job but there are some that use their authority to bully and screw with people. Gives all cops a bad name. BTW Mutt it is impossible to know every time you have a light burn out. Even if you checked it before getting in the car every time it might burn out while you are driving. I've had a burned out tail light and the cop just told me to make sure I got it fixed. That is what they should have done or at most gave him a fix-it ticket.

I wont let them search my car unless the judge says so, and I have nothing to hide. Pissed a few off over that. They found nothing, and they never will. Funny how most times when I tell them to call a judge they dont, and I am on my way. My attitude for this came from a dumb ass PA cop that wanted to cut a hole in my spare tire because he just knew there were drugs there. This was back when I was dumb like some here and said sure, search my car. Not anymore. They want to look, talk to a judge.

To those that say they will not hassle you without reason, that all depends on the cop. The only cops that have not been jerk offs to me have all been State Troopers. I have much more respect for them than any of the others. Why? Because they don't seem to hire the dumb ass jock brain dead fools that the local police so like to hire. They treat me with respect, and I do the same for them.

I guess we're just going to have to disagree Mutt. It's my belief that if a cop asks to search your car, them you respectfully say no just like I did. They don't want to search your car to make friends with you, they want to so that they can cite you for more infractions. Even if I let them search my car, then they would've just driven off with the belief that I'm just really good at hiding my 'dope'.

Your right JP. Let them have some hard on cop pull a bunch of crap and then see what they say. One time was enough for me. Call a judge. If he says it is ok, then have at it.

I know several people from High School that became cops. They feel there are only two types of people in the world. Cops, and criminals. If you're not one, you must be the other. I would never let a cop search my car, or any of my property without a warrant. I don't just "give up" my rights because they ask me too.
