Hi

Well yesterday I sneaked up to my field to do a couple of flights on my protos. I'm using a Align 60A Esc. This bird has around 27 flights on it without problems. 6S 2500mAh Outrage batteries btw.

On my first flight, I went to the flight line, spooled up in normal mode (to align the main and tail blades), spooled down, hit TH, hit idleup1, centered stick and released TH (like I ALWAYS do) and suddently instead of the usual slow soft start, the motor went imediately to full throttle. The bird did a piro on the ground before I hit TH again. So there I stood looking at my radio thinking of what could have gone wrong... after like 30 seconds wondering, I decided to give it another try and behold... perfect slow startup without a hick. I thought "Ok, maybe, just maybe, I didn't spool down completely so the ESC didn't knew it should spool up slowly". Anyway, 10 seconds later I flipped it forward to inverted and suddently I lost all power. I managed to flip it back upright and the power came back. I landed and I was puzzled again. After another 30 seconds or so, I finally decided to try it again and voila... no more problems until the end of that flight and also no problem on the next flight with a fresh battery.

Now I'm a bit worried of what happen on that first flight... an unfortunate sequence of brain farts or something is about to die on my protos? I'm used to start my flights with either a tail stand launch or half a rainbow with a half piro at the inverted section but now I'm damm too scared before I flip it the first time to check if the motor is holding.

Ideas?

Thx

Tony

Wow that is wierd. We had a guy who started in normal mode on hia Align 60 and then he spooled down like you did. he then tried to spool up again and nothing at all.....it died! This is the first time I have heard of the Align 60 amps having issues (although they may have existed before). This is the one ESC that has seemed to be almost the go to ESC when you don't want to use the GOV mode in the Protos (tail wag).
I wonder if yours is on it's way out too. When you first started to explain what it was, I thought you did not allow for the head to stop fully also but as I read on I realized that you did
I don't think the issue is you, I think the ESC is giving up the ghost Well time to upgrade to the Jazz .........Ron

Well time to upgrade to the Jazz
I would need to get a second mortage on my house to buy a 80-6-18... It may be great but it costs more than my heli!

I have had my 60A do something similar to your startup problem. If I don't let the blades totally stop when it spins down, it will go full bore and skip the belt until I grab throttle hold. I have had my 35X do it also. So I think that is just something the Align escs do.

As for your other problem, I have no idea.

fwiw..

From my experience with the Align escs in general....They do behave oddly unless you give them time to reset...A quick TH on and off will give inconsistent results....TH will definitely skip soft start if toggled too fast...Idle up will also drop power momentarily if hammered before the spool up is not complete... Other than idiosyncracies, they work fine...
