Im gonna go ahead and order a new motor for my v2. Just to make sure I order everything right.....

Scorpion 2221-8 V2
13tooth pinion

This is the correct pinion for stock align 35X ESC and 3s 25C cells right? What is the approx HS with 13tooth? The above motor is the correct scorpion motor right?

The only mods needed is to dremel out the screw holes on the motor plate in the frame right? Is it worth it to buy another motor mount for easy motor swaps.

That will be a great setup. Headspeed should be somewhere around 3200. 13 tooth works great on 3S if you have good lipos.

I just used a small flat file to widen the holes in the motor mount. It was pretty simple.

13T for hard 3d yes but if not a 12T will be easier on your packs and give you longer flight times.

So will the scorp -8 on a 12tooth feel like the 430xl on a 13tooth with less bogging?

I running the 430xl 3700kv on a 13tooth now and the HS is great until I do multiple flips etc. I know alot of you will say learn collective managment but yadda, yadda, yadda.

The -8 will be very similar to the 430XL... it just has a bit more torque. It will help slightly with that bogging, but you shouldn't expect a night and day difference.

Ok. I went ahead and ordred the -8 scorpion. I have many different sized pinons from 10-14. I will start with the 13tooth. Thats good that the scorpion is alot like the 430xl with less bogging. I like the head speed of the 430xl.

You will find the Scorpion will give slightly more Head speed than the 430XL on the same pinion.
I find 450's on 3s are very battery dependant.

Im gonna be using my airthunder 2200 3s 25C lipos. If I can get the same performance out of this -8 as my 430xl but with less collective managment needed, than Ill be happy.

Alright. I got my Scorpion -8 in and installed on a 13 tooth. It took a little work to route the motor leads because of the where they come out of the top. I also soldered the connectors that came with the motor onto the stock ESC. I guess Ill have to get those type connectors and put them onto the 430XL if I ever wanna go back. Im using the same ESC settings from the 430XL. Everything seems to work great. The HS feels faster than the XL motor. Its alot harder to bog also. I did like 3 mins of pitch pumping on a fresh 2200 3s 25C....LOL. After the 3 mins of PP the voltage in the lipo was 11.3. The motor was slightly warm and the lipos were a little warmer than they were with the 430XL.

I charged up 5 other packs and will take them to the field tommorow for my overall impressions.

Thanks for the info, So far Im pleased with the motor even though I have not done any sustained flips or anything. Im guessing the 3 or so mins of hard pitch pumping would have put a hard enough strain on it.

I do feel in a crash Ill do more damage than before LOL.

LOL. I sure did with mine. Broken metal blade grips and all kinds of fun stuff.

For the record. Did you have to enlarge your motor mount? I did not have to do anything when I mounted mine. Wondering if mine was already done. I bought it as "never used" so not really new.

Yes I did. I just grabbed a small flat metal file and widened the screw slots the same in both directions. Worked great and only took a few minutes.

How about the oiling? I can see the top bearing but not the bottom one. How does one oil the bottom one? Also, I figure just a very small drop on each bearing and hand turn it into the bearing correct?

To oil the inside bearing get it from the holes on the fan side of the motor.

Guys if your you fly the SE with the scorpion 8 motor my advice would be not to use the 13 tooth pinion. I had 2 flights on mine and it snapped the spindle in 1/2 exploding the head the rest was like duck hunt. It was so far beyond repair i picked up a t500. Now this is only on the SE spindle im not sure what the size of the v2 is.

The V2 has a much beefier feathering shaft. I belive the weak points are the grip screws that hold the grips to the shaft.
