Moving the gyro to a new heli...

Whats the best way to remove the double-sided foam tape from the gyro, so a new piece can be mounted to a clean surface?

Tried some nail polish remover (although now that I look at the bottle again it's non-acetone formula)...didn't do quite the job I was looking for! TIA

Goof Off works well. http://www.goof-off.com/ Same as bug and tar remover for your car. Rubbing Alcohol will get it off too.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

For the metal plate, use brake cleaner, it will just about drip off. Don't put it on the plastic gyro!

Generally you can simply peel the tape and the glue off the gyro. If you really must use something, try a citrus-based cleaner available from the local grocery store. It's the stuff that smells like oranges. Citra-Solv and De-Solv-it are two that come to mind. They're made from orange oil and WON'T attack the plastic. If that doesn't work, vegetable oil usually works just fine for removing the glue left behind by the tape.

I had a psychiatrist friend of mine evaluate the above responses. Here is what he determined...
lighter fluid is an extremely good adhesive remover
This guy is an pyromaniac. He has his insurance agent on speed dial and has submitted several tapes to "Americas Funniest Videos".
Goof Off works well.
This guy is a total goof off himself. He occasionally takes a bath in this stuff.
try a citrus-based cleaner
This individual loves the outdoors, eats organic foods and rides a bicycle to work. He is thinking of joining a nudist camp.
I usually just work it off with my fingers
This guy has a finger fetish. There is no telling where else his fingers may have been. Never shake hands with him.
WD-40 works pretty well
A typical American do-it-yourself kind of guy; loves to change his own oil, usually making a mess on the driveway.
use brake cleaner
Similar to above but never reads the warning label. Uses brake cleaner on everything including his contacts.

Foam tape removeal
Finger nail polish remover or lighter fluid works the best after you have worked most of it off with your fingers.

This works well

the best way to remove the double-sided foam tape from the gyro
I like to put a piece of scotch tape on the gyro first, and then the double sided tape will peel easily and cleanly off...

Thet do sell an aerosol can to remove graffiti and also stickers that has been baked on by the sun. We use this stuff for Hazmat labels on the side of a bobtail tanker. They come off with ease and smell like oranges.
