Have a double dilemma. On my used predator I have both the metal open tai box and an unused stock one. The open tail box tail slider bolt is stripped out and I can't buy just that part, the arm with 2 flat head screws in it. A new box is over 100 bux, if I remember right and a thread repare kit is about 50 bux and I wonder how it will hold up??? Other wise the tail box is super smooth from being run in.

The stock tail box was partially assembled in a bag with extra parts. The previous owner had the 2 gears mixed up and I fixed that but it seemed notchy. I then noticed that he didn't have the 2 small washers on the tail shaft. That took the notchy part out but now it's super tight. I can't imagine this is correct. I took one washer out and it gets notchy again. I wonder if I should file the gear "hub" down a couple thousands till it loosens up? I have tried both sets of gears in different configurations in two different stock tail gear boxes, a new NX one and an old pre-NX (I guess???) one. No rhime or reason to all this mess. I also replaced BOTH shafts to make sure one wasn't bent, they roll smooth as silk on granite.

Anyone else have a similar problem? I hate ruin a part by filing on it if it's something completely different.

Just use a longer bolt thru the metal version, and put a nut on it, no problem..

I tried that and it stayed kinda loose. The hole has that much play in it, enough that you can just push the screw through. I guess I could try a washer too??? Maybe even epoxy it?

No idea on the stock one? Is the open metal one actually better or is it just bling effect?

The stock one does fine also...where it goes on to the boom, I put a piece of stick on sandpaper for the case to grip to...one on each side, and cut the hole out with a exsacto knife on the boom....If you have the new NX kit, then you don't need to do the sandpaper trick, it grips fine by itself...

I was able to do some micro engineering. I put a bit of JB weld on the threads with a nut on top and it tightend up finally. Ready to go except I missplaced my V3 muffler extension....I hate when that happens.

I had a similar problem. I was able to solve it by finding a package of shaft shims in the R/C Car section of the LHS. They are very thin, took a few to get all the play out and have it run smooth.
