Aloha guys & gals. Finally got my Pantera done and maidened. Hovers very nice and feels very responsive. My question is what do you suggest on the CG? My bird came out alittle tail heavy. I'm using the Spektrum 1,100mah rx pack. I don't have a bigger pack to fit to add weight to the front. I don't want to add weight but I will if I gotta.

TT

I don't do 3D....no wait. Oh thats right, I can't do 3D!

I had the same problem on my first Pantera and I removed the pushrod guides from the tail and went to a cf pushrod. Also removed the horizontal fin. With a 2S A123 pack in the front she balances out nicely. I have since set up all of my Panteras this way. I found that due to the length of the cf pushrod I had to put a velcro strap loosely around the rod about midways or it would cause a tail twitch occasionally. I most recently removed my arizona and lipo from one of my panteras to go to A123 packs on it also and found I was a little off on cg when I did that. I replaced the tail support rods with cf ones from a trex 600 (12 bucks for a set so I couldn't go wrong)and once again she's balanced. I ended up shedding another 8 ozs from all up weight when I changed the last items.

I meant to do that!!!

Talk to The Dude II when he gets back...
He will tell you to add the weight. Once the Pantera is balanced(at half tank, fuel) it's all you ever wanted it to be

1100 mah is way wimpy for a copter with digital swash & tail servos. You won't get many flights (depends of course on how hard you fly) before needing to recharge the packs. The 2S A123 is an excellent suggestion, it will give you twice the flights (2300 mah) and sufficient weight to get your bird balanced. No regulator required (except for tail step down), charges very quickly, will last through a zillion recharges. Best RX battery choice by far IMHO.

Remember it's extremely important to get your bird to balance with half a tank of fuel, which will only make your current tail heavy situation worse. It should be slightly nose heavy without fuel.

Although a well balanced heli isn't critical for upright only flight, it becomes alot more important when you go inverted. The trim required to hold it level in upright flight adds to the tail heavy situation when inverted, which will double the amount your heli will be out of trim while inverted.

YEA! Congrats on flying your new bird.
Something that I never thought of. Think about this RR gang.
We are all flying ships designed for the heaver rx packs. Now that we are going to the Spec type rx's we just some nose weight.
I fly all my ships with a monster LithIon pack and Arizona reg. That makes the ship golden.
Again. Congrats on your first flights.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I know the 1,100mah is too small but thats what came with the DX7 and funds are very tight. I run A123 on my T500 and love it. Thats the plan, go with A123 and a stepdown for the tail. I appreciate the info on how to balance a nitro bird. I'm still wearing my noob badge. As a side note, have any of you guys visited the HF site? I see some our regulars there already.

Most of the time. It's been very, very windy and rainy for the last 3 months. This is our version of winter. No flying again today. Gusts up to 30... oh well. Where are you guys getting the stepdown or regulators from? I can't seem to find the A123 2s rx pack and a stepdown in one place.

Can't speak for others, I get batteries from Fromeco, and I have been using a tiny little regulated 5V tail step down from Perfect Regulators. Should be able to Google both of those easy enough, if you need a link let me know.
