I got my swash level in yesterday and have some questions about it's use and effectiveness.
The kit i'm using this on is the old Shuttle Zxx.
Step one is to level the heli PERFECTLY through the use of shims. (not included)

This is harder than I thought. I have an adjustable square with level attached. With this the easiest way I found is to remove the head and place the square at a 90 on the main shaft with the bubble level on the horizontal plane. The only issue with this is after i get it set any bump will make it go back off square. What type of shims are you folks using to level out the heli prior to using the swash level? And just how important is it to get the model completely level. I understand any adjustment made with the level when the kit is off level is gonna be off as well, These things i never thought of before when setting up by eye.

I swear I can get it closer by eye than with this thing..

The one thing that this tool did point out to me is that at the uppermost travel limit of the swash the swash plate tips forward just the littlest bit. almost unnoticable by eye.

I cant see any way to remove this tendency because any change to the linkage will alter some other positions setting..

Just get the swash perpendicular to the main shaft and trash the levels. Many folks just use Allen wrenches.

Trash all the levelers and leveler plates with bubbles. You want an excellent tool? You don't even have any head removal.

I use this myself on several helis, works great.

+1 bubble levels are not the right tool for the job. Use the type of swash leveler that sits on top of the ball links.

As for getting the swash to stay level throughout your pitch travel, what you need is to adjust the endpoints or using a program mix pitch > elevator. What you're seeing there is CCPM interaction. There have been a great many threads on exactly that topic.

After that is level, and head is installed you should also 0' the pitch from front of the heli and adjust the swash if not 0. Make my cheapo heli flew real good after I discover that!

The bubble level will work ok. you just have to be sure that your table is level as well.

you can also use two blocks that are identical in size under the swashplate. This is not good for seeing interaction at extreme throws though.
