Just got back from flying this little bird. First, i'll tell you my parts/mods: i started bone stock.
hitec 5065 cyclic (made the cyclic SO solid compared to stock servos)
gy401 w/ 9257 (holds the tail much better than stock)
stock motor/esc 10t pinion
integy sbec (to support all the digital servos)
cy radix mainblades (very nice blades, very stiff, cyclic feels much crisper)
stock tailblades
spectrum 6100e

Mods:
grip flix (but not mixer flip, this did seem to make the cyclic a bit more responsive, but i didn't see a huge difference)

okay, i am set up for +/-10 degrees pitch
+/- 5 degrees cyclic (most i can get without binding of flybar cage on grips)
90-80-90 throttle curve with 10% elevator/aileron to throttle mixing

So far i'm pretty happy, this little guy will scoot around pretty well. at the moment i'm doing fast forward flight, big loops, rolls, stationary flips/rolls, little bit of inverted flight, tick-tocks. i have to say i'm surpised how well the stock motor system holds up. its practically unboggable with this setup and has pretty good punch. i can only hear rotor speed drop slightly under high collective and cyclic. keeps enough speed that the tail holds though. i'm a little disappointed with the cyclic range though, 5 degrees just doesn't feel like enough for quick stationary flips/rolls. tail seems plenty fast in piros both stationary and freefall. i'm guessing my next mod will be the mixer flip as i'm told that gives you more cyclic.

anyone else have a take on the general flyability of the airframe itself? if you have bought other 450's (i have my eye on the trex 450 v3) why did you move to those helis? I'm thinking at some point the airframe won't be able to keep up.

Change out the stock flybar paddles, go to something with no weights, I had a set from a beam and it helped, also a longer flybar?
As far as the longevity of your setup, depends on which direction you want to go, bigger, better in same class or both?

okay, i think i'm going to go with the new trex 450 v3 pro. i switched to ligher paddles and the cyclic is okay but still not great. I also had a problem with head slop and the flybar links popping off mid flight. this is a nice beginner bird, but it can't sseem to handle 3D flight very well. stuff starts to break. my other beef is general slop in the head, as well as in the tail pitch mechanism. I believe this causes the gyro to hunt as its reversing direction rapidly taking the slop out of teh tail both ways before the heli responds.

I must say that when I first read your choice on the Rex over the Beam I was going to question you on it. Then I took some time and looked at the V3 Pro and now I am questioning myself on the Beam.
Hopefully my memory will fade of the great pics of the Pro and I'll be happy with the Beam for a while.

funny you say that because now i'm thinking about getting a beam. i think whats really turning me off on the new trex is the torque tube. its had some problems already and its sure to make crashes a bit more expensive.

I don't know, cute little gyro, neat positioning of the tail servo, good servos in the package and I like the idea of no more belts. Plus a really cool packaging design, price seemed good compaired to my Beam when I added the electronics. What's the problem with the tube setup.
