i just got in to this hobby a month ago and ordered everything i need to put a beam together. I went with lipos cause I thought that was the "norm"
,but i'd like too get the "a-123" batteries too.
what do I need to use these batts and where do i get them?
-can i use 30amp powerpole connectors?
-do I need a different ESC(i have a scorpion 45a)?
-will my hyperion duo II charger work for these batts?
-what else do i need to know?

thanks
mike

typically you will need to set a 450 heli up for A123! a 3sA123 pack will be 10.95v standing but under load they will only be 8.1 so you would typically run a higher KV motor or higher pinion since, a 3s lipo is 12.6v and under load is 10.8v. a 450 heli does not make a good heli to run both A123 and lipo's. normally you would add more cells, to up the voltage but on a 450 the weight is a killer so you change the motor to a higher kv, Now with that said, if you are just learning you don't need great performance and a stock heli will fly on 3s A123 but all it will do is hover around and circuits. the esc will be fine as will everything else. I can run both 7s A123 and 6s lipo on my Trex 500. I run a 85% curve on 6s lipo and 100% on A123 so I get good performance from both.
