Don't look now, but the Dow is actually up since George Bush's last day in office.

It's a very modest gain -- 29 points -- and it could easily disappear tomorrow, but it does weaken the right's narrative about President Obama and the economy.

Back in early March, they were living high off the dips in the Dow, freely bashing Obama for 'wrecking' the economy:http://www.dailykostv.com/w/001098/
Now, after finding comfort in the do-nothing alternative proposed by Rush Limbaugh, the conservative narrative of a stock market in decline has disappeared, at least for the time being.

Whether it comes back or not in the short-term really isn't the point here. The real point is that while all signs point towards an economy that will be on the upswing within the next year or two, it's the conservative philosophy that managed to get us where we are today.

It's the conservative philosophy that managed to tank the Dow by 25% over 8 years -- not including inflation. The absurd nature of their attacks on Obama have been exceeded only by the absurdity of ignoring the economic disaster that occurred on their watch.

And now that the Dow is up since inauguration, what do we hear from the right about President Obama's economic acumen?

Nothing -- just crickets. Because they want nothing more than for him to fail.

FWIW,

The DOW has gained because the Government is throwing hundreds upon hundreds of billions at financial institutions...

Bush didn't want to do that for obvious reasons.
It's the conservative philosophy that managed to tank the Dow by 25% over 8 years
You don't question this fact? The DOW tanked in the last two years.

What was the name of the fat little man that walked out into the city and read out the news from Caesar to the peasants in the HBO series "Rome"?

The market went above 8000 because of changes to the "Mark to market" rules. People like Steve Forbes have been screaming this needed to be done since before the first tarp. They said that a move like that plus cutting the capital gains and a few other tweaks would prevent us from spending trillions to supposedly fix the economy. But Obama didn't want to hear that, he wanted an excuse to spend trillions. Now with rules change, many of the "toxic" assets don't seem so toxic. If KOS kids don't want Obama to take the blame for a down market, they shouldn't blindly praise him for up market. What we are seeing is the market moving back up as if it was a rather normal recession before practically any of the stimulus has been spent. All Obama has done is guarantee high inflation and higher taxes.

Minan,
I won't defend the Republicans. They were wrong. They spent too much.
Bush was wrong on Tarp 1.
The problem is that they did not follow conservative values.
MOST of them still aren't doing so, and I am fed up with them.
However, the Obama plan is very short-sighted and only designed to kick the can down the road. The next time we have to deal with this, and we will, it will be so much worse, because of all the NEW debt.
He says whatever people want to hear at the time, then does something else. He only cares about his socialist agenda and the appearance that he is saving us.
So, blame the Republicans. They did have a hand in getting us here.
But...Conservatism, and returning to our constitution as it was written, is the only solution, not the problem.

not gonna happen. The world changes my friend. You can change with it, or you can grow old and bitter... You can like it or hate it, I don't really care, but society is never going to step backwards to please the whiny, narrowminded portion of the populace.

Brian, your freedom to sit on the internet call people whiny, and narrow minded exist because of the whiny narrow minded people that understand that our country is only going to continue to exist because of the Constitution. Once hte left, and right have destroyed it, the rights protected under it go away.

John, the Constitution was great for when it was written. It's still fantastic now, but Times change, perceptions change, and as such the Constitution has changed (see Amendments). As perception continues to change, the Constitution will continue to change. As the needs of society change, the Constitution may be amended even more. It is the will of the people, call them stupid, ignorant, and uninformed, whatever, right or wrong the will of the voting public will shape the future.

The Constitution, and our representitive republic were designed to keep the uninformed sheep from leading the country with mob rule, which is what you are describing. As gung-ho for the new world order, and the loss of Americas sovereignty as the left is, when the **** hits that fan, and the majority of Americans (and it is the majority, the left just cries louder) get sick of the degradation of our country, systems, and quality of life, they will take it back, and they will win.

BJames,
What part or parts of the Constitution do YOU want to change?

P.S. Is it a coincidence that your initials are BJ or is that just a another hobby of yours?...just asking, the whiny, narrow-minded portion of the populace wants to know.

I don't necessarily want to change any part of the constitution. I just think there were some great Amendments...why not take a look and see what was originally written, and what was ADDED LATER. OBVIOUSLY there is room for improvment, otherwise there wouldn't have been ANY amendments...wow genious...

And in response to your very mature Post Script, not really much of a surprise coming from an obvious lesser man like yourself.

That's all I needed to read. It's just another partisan BS article trying to blame the Republicans. The reasons for the market crash are far more complex than that, and it's just stupid to try and hang it on a political party, or a president.
It is the will of the people, call them stupid, ignorant, and uninformed, whatever, right or wrong the will of the voting public will shape the future.

We are not a democracy
. We are a representative republic, as written in the constitution. When you finally wrap your head around that idea, American politics will become overwhelmingly clear to you.
Is it a coincidence that your initials are BJ or is that just a another hobby of yours?
Now, that's just uncalled for. Are you 12?

Just because my views don't align with your conservative views doesn't mean I'm a troll. I try not to let emotion affect any of my responses because it wrecks the concept of a "discussion". I try to present my views as objectively as possible, but what's the point anymore when anything short of "right wing" is considered liberal? I know there are many other moderates on this forum that likely read this forum, but most are silent because they know that their words would likely fall on deaf ears. I really didn't hold much against you up until now. But now I do. I gave you no reason to disrespect me, and I DID respect your views and did listen to what you had to say. Not anymore. To me your credibility is lost by calling me a troll when I do NOT, in fact, troll.

If it's not worth your time to comment then you shouldn't leave trolling remarks such as this. Plain and simple. If you make trolling remarks and get called out don't hate the one calling you out, rather, hate yourself for making the trolling remark.

If "blah" was taken as a trolling statement, my apologies. I fly from coast to coast for work and sometimes I post a reply, then when I re-read it realize that I made no sense.. so I edit it and post "blah"... I guess "edit" would probably be a better, less offensive way of removing posts.. Again, sorry for the misunderstanding.

That does not mean that it always changes for the best.
but society is never going to step backwards to please the whiny, narrowminded portion of the populace.
Or you could claim that is exactly why it does change, except then you call it "progress".

This post of yours is not really inline with your normal postings. This had a very large slam part to it IMO.
As the needs of society change, the Constitution may be amended even more. It is the will of the people, call them stupid, ignorant, and uninformed, whatever, right or wrong the will of the voting public will shape the future.
There comes a point when the majority will try to take away the rights of the minority. The Constitution was written with certain rights that were supposed to prevent that from happening. The right to bear arms comes to mind. You can claim that there is no need for that right, but history has shown that when good law abiding people are disarmed that builds a more oppressive govt.

The basic rights in the Constitution (BoR) should never been stepped on IMO..... EVER.
