Hi, Which hitec servos are equivalent to or are close to the JR 8717 in terms of tech specs.? Our LHS stocks the entire hitec range, but a limited JR range.

thanks,

Anurag

THis one:

http://www.hitecrcd.com/servos/show?name=HS-7940TH

The main thing I really like about Hitecs is their programability. THis one isnt available yet, but it will be soon. I will get a set to try out for sure..

That Hitec servo is very expensive, around U$D 150 and it´s not a BLS servo
this is their high end servos. programmable, high voltage and very fast.

i would get a few once they come out.

What can those servos do that a simple Align DS620 valued in 60 U$D couldn´t do ?
Let me start at the top of the list;

Can program center without radio subtrim thereby almost totally eliminating interaction( especially helpful with Dx7)

can reverse servo without doing it the radio

ability to set a fail safe on each and every servo

ability to set endpoints without uising radio

Can adjust dead band with programmer

And last but not least is QUALITY of servo. You want a cheap servo get one you want QUALITY it costs money.

why people buy expensive servos?
first main reason is...

because they CAN

if you can't or don't want to, then it's CAN'T.

im still gonna get them when they come out. and the aurora 9 as well.

If you can the same functions with your radio why waste the money
WRONG. when you start using these functions (subtrim) in the Dx7 or x9303. You start introducing more interaction into teh movement of the swash. Therefore MAKING you use more mixes to counteract the interaction. If you program the servo center and use no subtrim the problems you encounter will be less severe.

And one more thing IMHO the Align 610 SUX. I would rather spend $300 per servo and have it behave the way I want instead of a jittery POS they cannot be checked on the bench for interaction. You are trying to compare a Lambo to a yugo.

And Hyperion is NOT Align/savox, you asked what the difference between Hitec and Aling. You did not ask about another programmable servo.

Andika, I think you are over-reacting a little. The 7940th has a listed price around $135, which is still below that of the 8717, but its all just listed price. The 8717 can be had for a lot less when purchased in three's. Hitec servos are usually available for much less than the RRP if you search around.

And look at the spec of the 7940th before you start screaming about the price.

I am not the first heliboy in this forum that says Hitec servos are very b_d
forum product reviews are generally bipolar.. any forum..

there will be ppl who will say this and that are the worst
there will be ppl who will say this and that are the best

hence why usage of IMHO, IMO, CORRECT ME IM WRONG, MY 2 CENTS, +1 etc.. are widely used.

this actually helps me in making decisions.. call it a 2nd opinion

at the end of the day its all down to you..

like marmite..either you love it or you hate it.. i hate it, my bro loves it.

I wonder if all those 400 and 450 Heli people know that they're running b_d Hitec servos in their Helli's, must be thousands of them including me.

I like Hitec servos. I would not have said that before I actually tried them.

Here, 8717's go for nearly $180 + tax EACH!!!! nowadays......(no, not the HV's)

the hitec 7940 uses the same motor and gear ratio that the JR 8717 servos use, this is as per Mr. Spiker at Hitec RCD USA.

We just got 3 7940TH (not TG) servos. I've heard that these should be in the stores by the end of this month.

Even if you CAN, I would suggest putting these on 90size helis and use 7975HBs for 50 sized helis. HB gears will break when crashed, but they do not develop backlash like metal (brass/aluminum) gears.

Titanium gears will hold up well in continued use (about 250 flights so far on 7955 servo + 5996 TG gears which is a predesessor to 7940TG called 7935TG) with 2 crashes. Do be sure to replace all plastic servo wheels after a crash as the splines will strip or wear.
