This is pretty wild. I didn't know about the advertising rules part, and it would seem that JB may have taken these discussions a bit into the marketing realm.

At the same time, some of it is JB defending his product. Where I think he goes too far, is in some of the comparisons. There are a lot of good helis out there, and sometimes all the this vs that stuff just ends up irritating people.

The Pantera is what it is, as is a Raptor, Vibe, ect. They all have strong and weak points.

The arguments just get stupid at times. The classic example, is the Frenzy vs Pantera thread. What the hell is the point of going on and on. They are different, but both fly good.

I am not setting up the Pantera for extreme 3D, so I don't care that the Frenzy may do it better. I don't think either is the best choice for extreme 3D anyway, but then that's not my worry.

To me, putting a lot of money in a .50 doesn't make sense, but that's just me.

I put the big bucks in the .90 and gasser. For just hell raising fun, my new Rave is going to be perfect.

I got the Pantera for a cheap to fly .50. For that purpose, it fits perfectly.

It's all realitive to each person's desire.

What many seem to forget, is that kit price is minor. If you are looking for extreme performance, you are going to spend $800+ on servos and a gyro. Yet people argue about a $50 difference in the price of a kit?

This is a funny hobby.

9252's ???

Try 3 - DS8717HV's for the cyclic. Same price as 4 Pantera kits.

To be serious, 9252's are great servos. But do you think someone that will shell out $1500 for the new Vibe 90 SE will use them. Hell no.

The fact is, every component is part of the system, and if you want the best stuff, it is going to cost you a lot of $$$.

Then after you spend all that money, you can tell everyone how great it is, and how everything else is crap.

My point, is that these arguments just get silly.

My 90 kit was around $1000. The added stuff like electronics, engine and muffler was well over $1000 additional.

What really sucks, is that I am really enjoying the little Rave 450 4S that I just finished. It is amazing how fast it will pop, yet it is very stable. No where near the money I have in the 90. Yet it is a monster. And I can push my luck, and not be out $300+ to fix it.

The Rave is changing my perspective on things.

But the bottom line, is that we are all insane. Ask any woman.

Don't laugh. The women of the world want to make RC illegal.

I am trying to get my wife involved. She loves flying the Blade mCX.

I also got her a Blade 400. When I mentioned Pitch Curve, the tail rotor, and radio programing, it was a big turnoff.

We are sooo screwed.

Being serious, that is true.

My wife is real cool right now. I just want her to try the 400, and stop screwing around with that mCX.

I feel I just need to add a little about what is an acceptable profit for a business. Some feel he was making money selling the Pantera for 199.00 and that he made more money at 300. So what? So what if he made 25 or say 40 bucks per kit at full retail? At 199.99 for the first kit then 99.99 for the second I bet he about broke even or lost some. At $259.99 before the sale I thought that was very reasonable for a 50 as opposed to Align or TT. What the frames are made of at this point is irrelevant. If you thought that you got what you paid for than the manufacturer deserves to make a decent profit to keep the doors open and develop new stuff. I've been in sales for 17 years and it always amazes me that some customers hate for you to make a dime off them but they are usually the first ones to gripe or want to be serviced right now. If you wonder what JB was making per kit at say 259.99 can you imagine what Align is raking in at their prices? When I needed new frames for my T500 and realized that the CF ones were like 59 bucks a set and the el cheapo FG ones at 40 dollars a set I almost choked. I almost bet that the manufacturers quantity cost on those must be around 4 to 6 bucks a piece. Also realistically, I think it would take a heck of a lot more that 7 to 8 kits to pay for adverts worth a 700 to a grand a month. One of the very reasons I try to give my LHS in Honolulu most of my business is they take very good care of me. If I need parts yesterday its in the mail. I want them to prosper so they stick around. Think about this. I buy 15% nitro here on the island for 29 bucks a gallon, if Paula in Honolulu sends it to me I save 2 bucks. Not worth the hassle of barging it to me on Kauai. Plus I would rather see the guy here stay in business as he's as fair as he can be. I won't even try to fly 30% nitro, I can't afford to. Actually, the way I fly? It would be a waste of good fuel. Just my .1 1/2 cents worth (adjusted for inflation).

TT

I don't do 3D....no wait. Oh thats right, I can't do 3D!

well said tacoturbo. John's making little if any profit on the new sale price. And for you guys who are kicking JB when he can't defend himself, please go buy a Frenzy. You will love the out of round and unbalanced parts.

Ditto! Everyone is just trying to keep their heads above water through these difficult times we're in. I don't think JB is making a thing on the kits at that price for two. It probably will just free up some over head for now. I don't see used nitro Helis selling for much, people are holding on to their money.
Just my opinion

I tried calling him and got his voice mail.
The last time I talked to him about another project. (three days ago) He was upbeat and thinking about another container of parts and ships.
Lynn (his wife) was on track for her next contract with the local school board to teach next year.

I talked to him about 2PM Eastern today. I needed a clutch liner. He sounded good, the same as always just rolling with the punches.

No the clutch is holding up fine. What I ended up doing is I messed up my mod. clutch bell when I was pressing in a new bearing. So I was waiting on brother in law to set me up again, he is going to be layed up for a bit, so I have someone else going to spin me a new clutch bell that will take a 9mm pinion. So since it will be a new bell I need a lining.

I need to find a cheap lathe, then I can get myself in lots of trouble.

Hi folks,

I overstepped the bounds. Simply put, I know the rules. I get passionate about my product and overstep them. Mark slapped me down for it, which is entirely within his rights as the site owner.

We spoke, I apologized, and I'll do better moving forward. I can make two posts a month of a marketing nature, the rest need to be tech oriented. Let's just move on!
