Was setting up for a tail slide and heli started to piroflip on its own. I hit hold which stop the piro but also the blades stopped almost immediately, causing it to drop about 80 feet.

Post crash inspection showed a seized tension pulley and it was hard to turn the auto pulley. Prior to this flight the blades were turning free with the wind.

Damage was prettty low. Blade grip arm, tailcase, bent linkages, canopy, break away tab, tail blades, struts.spindles?

Does anyone know if helidirect will be at the Toledo show? And if so will they be selling parts?

Which part seized? The oneway, or did the belt jump the pulley?

No, one of the tension pulleys was seized and for some reason the Shaft collar was causing the head to not rotate freely.( oneway was fine) What is weird is it was pretty windy today and the head was spinning free on the bench up until this flight.

I did not find any other reason for it to piro out of control. When i hit throttle hold the blades came to a stop within seconds giving me no way to auto it in soft.

I was able to get it back together at the field and the tail servo functioned properly but i was having tracking problems leaving me to find the bent blade grip arm.

I can see why people may run into ESC problems if the head starts to seize causing it to work the ESC too hard.

Check your elevator shaft and see if the bellcrank can rotate independently of the actual shaft/elevator "A-arm". I can just about guarantee you that it will have some play and the shaft itself has wallowed out around the bellcrank set screw because of the crash. You should be able to reuse the shaft as it is symmetrical and there is a flat on the opposite side, just flip the entire shaft around.

You nailed that on the head! After the crash the a-arm was no longer 90 degrees to the bellcrank. I readjusted it at the field and did a very quick hover and found that i had a tracking issue ( bent pitch arm).

Upon further inspection the elevator servo was hard to move by hand. I decided to pull all the bellcranks off and inspect the shaft. It is exactly as you described and i will be replacing it.

thanks!
