On a scale of 1-10 how do you rate your hand/eye coordination(1 being a baloon pilot, 10 being a contest 3D flyer, 11 being Justin Chi)
What did you buy as your first helicopter?
How long to hover a SQUARE pattern and not crash?
How much time did you put into the Simulator.
How long to nose in? (or did you?)
How long to forward flight figure 8's.
How much did you spend on parts till then?
How long before you got a 2nd heli?
How long before your wife started to say "Another helicopter"?
How long before you started to HIDE your helicopter?
How long before you were helping OTHER people learn?
How long before you decided you were going to buy a Nitro?
How...Loop
How...Roll
How...Flip
How long before you were spending so much time on RR that you decided to start a thread like this?
If you could roll and loop in your first 12 months, please stop there. No Life stories!

Maybe when a noob signs on and asks questions, we can relate them to this thread?

How long before you were spending so much time on RR that you decided to start a thread like this?

Forums are most valuable places on the internet, You can't put the price on information they have.

If you could roll and loop in your first 12 months, please stop there. No Life stories!

ok here we go

hand eye coordination,I think from 20+ years of guitar playing I am a 10

blade cp non pro

about 1 1/2 months to hover a square, but no rc experience and the above mentined heli SERIOUSLY hampered my progress.I am not making excuses I am being real, that heli held me WAY back, more time changing tail motors than flying

did not get a sim till 9 months in(HUGE mistake),now i use it almost daily

nose in about 3 months in when I got the Mini titan

started FF VERY BASIC SLOW 4 or 5 months in

got the Mini titan in may of 07 and the HBK in july of 07

dont even WANT to know $$$$$ in parts

no wife/kids, no real girlfriend as of now,so I do as I please

been helping people since I could hover,I like to pass knowledge on,and mechanics come easy to me

decided on nitro about 6 months ago, maybe a little less, got my first nitro airborn about 3 weeks ago

loops rolls and flips about a year+ in,once I had upright hovers down.I dedicated the ENTIRE summer of 07 to upright hovers.summer of 08 started flips rolls loops and inverted hovers.inbetween worked on ovals, 8's, stall turns, piros, and general FF

Been gaming on consoles for 20 years. Love racing games. owned many rc cars. I would score myself a 9 probably.
What did you buy as your first helicopter?
ESky King2 (Feb 2008)
How long to hover a SQUARE pattern and not crash?
About a month of hovering.
How much time did you put into the Simulator.
Before I flew? About an hour. Afterwards? Maybe 20 hours in total over the last year.
How long to nose in? (or did you?)
About 3 months in with the gym as a flying area.
How long to forward flight figure 8's.
Rough 8s about 2 months in.
How much did you spend on parts till then?
In crash parts? I had about 3 crashes while actually flying at the 3 month mark. I averaged about $15 per crash, so about $45. In upgrade costs? Don't go there.
How long before you got a 2nd heli?
About 4 months, a used Mini Titan.
How long before your wife started to say "Another helicopter"?
No wife.
How long before you started to HIDE your helicopter?
No wife.
How long before you were helping OTHER people learn?
Pretty much right away.
How long before you decided you were going to buy a Nitro?
NEVER!
How...Loop
About 13 months.
How...Roll
About 13 months.
How...Flip
About 5 months, about 320 flights.
How long before you were spending so much time on RR that you decided to start a thread like this?
Happened pretty quick with a near 10 PPD count.
If you could roll and loop in your first 12 months, please stop there. No Life stories!
Winter slowed my progress or I would have.

What did you buy as your first helicopter?
Blade CP Pro.

How long to hover a SQUARE pattern and not crash?
A couple months.

How much time did you put into the Simulator.
Lots. I wasn't logging.

How long to nose in? (or did you?)
About 6 months to hover and fly a T pattern. Much longer to be able to fly comfortable at speed. Something un-nerving about your heli bearing down on you at speed.

How long to forward flight figure 8's.
FF came very quickly. But proper round eights with the nose coming around at you took about a year. These would be flown head high, 20 foot round circles maintaning the same speed and alititude.

How much did you spend on parts till then?
Lots of crashing with the Blade at $15 for cheap wood blades it was expensive. I didn't keep records.

How long before you got a 2nd heli?
It didn't take long to realise that the Blade CP was not a good trainer. 2 months before I got the HBK2 that I still fly today.

How long before your wife started to say "Another helicopter"?
When I bought the last one.

How long before you were helping OTHER people learn?
As soon a I had something helpful to say. It was early on.

How long before you decided you were going to buy a Nitro?
Haven't decided against it, but I'd rather stay electric.

How...Loop
How...Roll
How...Flip

I decided early on that I wanted be very solid in all upright orietations and maneuvers before moving onto inverted. That includes upright backwards flight and upright funnels. So no flips, rolls or loops until that is done.

3 years when I got my Xcel .60(No one was thinking flips back then)How long before you were spending so much time on RR that you decided to start a thread like this?

I pretty much stopped flying from 2000-2007 because of my 4 kids and other interests. Teaching my older 2 kids to fly and after buying my first Electric (BeltCP) I rediscovered RC again.
