Hi guys,

This is for my friend who wants to run a car with two lipos in parallel.

He wants to run two 3S 860mah packs to make a 3S 1720mah pack.

Could someone please tell him the rules he needs to follow to make sure his packs are safe please?

Thank you!

Both must be the same voltage when connecting, if both are fresh of charger then it's good.

Pretty much they just need to be treated like one pack. You get two benefits from the pair, first is the larger effective capacity and second stems from the new capacity, your maximum discharge rate doubles over a single pack.

just so there is no confusion....
your c rating will not double. your discharge rate only changes because of your new increased capacity.

I put the fun in dysFUNctional :)

Yes that is what I meant. For example if they are 15C packs then you would calculate the max current output as

15C = 15*1.72A = 25.8A

This is double what it would be with one pack

15C = 15*.86A = 12.9A

The better pack of the 2 will discharge faster so time your races/flights by the better pack. You will know which is better because it will be the pack that takes the most Mah on recharge. Its kind of like sheeps getting through a gap in a fence/gate, the stronger faster sheep will get through quicker. Perfectly matched packs are ideal of course.

60% of the time, it works every time!
