no licktite???? your nuts. actually they arent that hard to get loose, use a soldering iron and heat the heads for about one minute. Helps if you file a flat on the soldering tip.

No. I was kidding. But I have never used anything other than blue on any heli I have ever built so that won't change (I don't even own a bottle of red). They are easy to get loose with just a screw driver, as I only ever use barely a drop. I've been using the same bottle of blue for the last 4 heliz I built and still have enough to finish this one... and probably another.

Ok, so back to the build... I am going to back-track quite a ways and pull the motor to revisit the bottom frame touching the coil. I really don't think it will be an issue, but who am I to go against the better judgement of the people here helping me out and have done it before.

This will take a while....

Torenhg, no there are not any issues with Centurys Predator. All kits will have have thier faults/weaknesses. Its just that the flyers here have all got experiences to share and have the mods to improve things.

Its a fairly involved build, but with taking time to do things right the end result is one very nice bird that flies well.

I have had mine for over 2 years now with over 100 hrs flight time and its just been a great heli. I did have a vibe problem with the tail...turned out I had the power curve a bit high at one point. On joining this site I asked that question and got an answer right away.
Vibe vanished

If you are thinking of a gasser I would say to go the Predator route, its one of the cheaper gassers but dont let that put you off...they are good.

OK, I went back, removed the engine and made clearance between the bottom frame and coil. Now working on the upper frames and reassembling things to get back to the next step. All recommendations/mods have been done up to here (upper frame assembly). Wasn't too painful and I am sure you all know what you're talking about so it will no doubt be worth it.

True! especially if you come from the 30 size nitros to gassers!

I found the Predator took ALL my attention while flying, still does

Because of its weight there is a LOT of inertia there, so in forward flight you need to consider this when slowing down to land. Its easy to overshoot, and the calmer the conditions the worse it is.

They are not quite as nimble as the lighter helis but can still do 3D which is a mindblowing sight...check out YouTube for a Predator being out through its paces...its awesome!!!!

Other than that they fly well, easy to hover around and in strong winds they cope well. I fly mine in near gale force conditions where she gets chucked around like a little Trex 450 its fun!

OK, I opened the package with the bell cranks to put them together and one of the bearings does not go in one of the bell crank sides. One bearing is 8mm and the other three are 7mm. This really sucks cause now I have to go hunting for a 7mm bearing... Fffff.....

Are you keeping track of missing screws nuts bolts & parts?

Seems like you have had some issues in this area. What is Century saying?

I was on the fence between the Spectra G and condor and after seeing this I think I'm glad I went Spectra but my plan was to do a condor next. I would like to see what the end tally on parts issues you have and what Century does about it.

Well, I must say.. Century has been great about it. I thought it came with an ESS, but couldn't find it in the kit. I called Hobby Alley (where I bought it) and he said the local rep already called the distributor about it. He saw it in my post. They are sending me one now and I didn't even have to ask for it or about it. Bottom line was this, I read on the Century site that it came with an ESS, but in reality it does not. Because I misread or they made a mistake on the site (whichever it was), they sent an ESS out immediately at no cost. Now that is support!

Aside of that, up to now, I had 3 M3x20 shoulder bolts that should have just been bolts (threaded all the way to the head). I picked those up at the LHS and continued the build.

I have one bearing that should be 7mm, but it's 8mm. That's about it at this point. I know I'll find one quickly at the LHS, but I will also let my rep know as well.

To sum it up:

- 3 M3x20 bolts
- 7mm Bearing for the bell cranks

The quality has been great. Nothing to complain about at all. This thread was initially busy because I was doing the recommended mods, but they were not required,

I like the SE because I don't want to replace broken CF frames when I crash. If you are a 3D pilot, CF is probably the way to go, but for me, the heavier the better. When I crashed my Hawk hard and bent the metal frames, I just bent them back in shape and flew it again (after I fixed the other broken suff of course).

Oh, the SE comes with pretty much all the "required" upgrades as well... in my opinion. The rest of available upgrades is bling.

Oh ya.. the Condor, I believe swings 810mm blades. That's the other reason I didn't want that one. It's built to work, as a camera ship and going from 710 to 810mm blades is a BIG price jump too (cost of blades). I think what you want is CF or SE w/metal. Depends on where you want to go with it later. Of course, you could always buy CF frames later too.

Century are pretty good, they are on the ball usually. I was ordering parts a while ago and the guy dealing with me wasnt sure on the main gear so questioned me at length as to exactly which one I needed.

Thats qaulity imo, rather than the guy just chucking anything in the parcel, he cared about what was getting sent.

Century had a re hash of its base didnt it? quite a while back now...if I remember right. Would love to visit it if I am ever in the USA.

comparison of various Predator kits

http://www.centuryheli.com/products...m?currentid=500

I bought the 1305HP kit. I wanted the aluminum frame for the same reason everyone else wanted it, crash costs. But I'm really glad I have the ESS and actually the CF frame held up well from my crash last year and it was a pretty hard bang. I did end up having the tail support tabs ripped off of the rear frame members, now the tail support is bolted to the lower rear bolt which I like better anyway.

Century supported me pretty well after buying my kit. I ran into some issues with the kit which they took care of. I think I had one of the first NX kits they made.

Were the clutch bolts long enough? the bolts that came with my kit appeared to be for the pre-NX clutch and would not have worked.

Are you able to confirm your kit has the properly supported spraq bearing clutch, e.g. O-Ring mod?

I really like the way mine flies. I will be using it a lot this summer to work on my tail first circuit flying.
