If you just got the kit, you shouldn't have to do the o ring mod...

I know I know... actually, the time to do it would have been step 11, I am on step 29 now

This is why I am trying to determine what the ramafications of not doing it are. The plate did mount fine, but is touching the coil.

I briefly searched for one, but couldn't find it - just references and bits of info about the mod. I did it based on the pic Billme provided above.

here is the link to the thread with information on the Oring mod, sounds like you shouldn't need it but it'd be easy to check your spraq before installing it.

Also, the X frame mod is documented in this thread above, just cut the cross-member off so the fan base plate can clear the frame when removing the engine.

so the fan base plate can clear the frame when removing the engine.
That's what I needed to know in order to understand why.

Thanks. Oh, and is there a bigger picture somewhere

Umm... help!
OK, not sure how I noticed this, but in the manual on page 13, step 28, the clutch is either upside down or mine is upside down. Is my clutch going to grab because it does not match the picture in the manual?

thelane,

It's nothing to worry about. Century changed the design and didn't change the manual. See this thread for information about aggressive and non aggressive clutch shoe design.

thelane you need some sleep you where up till 2:22 am . Don't try to get the heli flying by the weekend take your time because these helis take more time to get right than nitro or electric. I would do what the guys are telling you as it's easier to do now than later.

Ah, the old clutch trick eh? had the same question when I did mine. It works fine, but you were right to question it. See! shows how observant you are

Take your time, savour the build and the rest will follow on.

Like mentioned before, be careful how much locktite gets used. Its a SOAB to get undone on the smaller bolts/fasteners otherwise. just the merest dab is all thats needed...the nail lacquer comment is the most sensible I have read for the locktite debate. For the larger fasteners then locktite is great, but just a dab.

Dont know if its too late but where the clutch sits on the fan there are 4 small dome head allen screws? mine were a pain to undo and the allen part rounded off (this was when I was checking the runout etc later on) I replaced the dome heads with standard type bolts with the thicker/deeper heads. Much better.

This site is good, its like having the whole team in your house

Quality takes........time!

This is making me salivate like pavlogs dog. Have got to get a gasser (and i will, just dont let my wife read this). All of the build questions get me somewhat concerned, sure i can do it but boy, allot of questions.

are all of the manufactures in the same boat or is there just a bit more uncertainty with century?

No worries mate... I don't want to fly it, just want to build it. I have a reputation for not flying what I have.

I don't use locktite.

That is an excellent tip actually - thanks.

Don't worry, I won't let her see it. She's downstairs making me a coffee when I read the forums - LMAO

Sorry man... you left that open I couldn't resist. Don't let all these questions throw you off, it's just me. I've discovered "the build thread". Decided to do this thread here while I am building and the support "is like having my own team here with me" so I am taking advantage of it and asking whatever questions I can come up with. This place rocks for help!

I have built several heliz in the past, took my time on every one of them, like two weeks to build and another week to setup. It's just me... slowww.

Century heliz are like a rock when you are done building. The last Century heli I had was a Hawk Pro and required ZERO maintenance. I swayed away for a while because I wanted to try the other stuff everyone else was flying... Align, JR, etc. Now look where I am.. back here with a Century heli. In all honesty, Century requires some experience to build. If you don't have enough, you come here. Their manuals are not good either, but this is where the experience helps.

I don't agree with "a gasser is more work than a nitro". I think a heli is a heli and the only thing I have noticed different about it being a gasser is the fuel lines, time to break-in and the fact that is uses gas rather than nitro. Otherwise, same stuff. Oh.. and the engine is bigger.

If you want a gasser, get a Predator. Support for it is incredibly good! Probably the last heli you will ever need to own. I don't see any upgrades that will be required, other than the washout arm set and the elev lever set. They have done an excellent job of putting the upgrades right where they are needed. Everything else is just bling.
