If BB people are always knocking the IPhone, then why are they trying to copy & keep failing!

How does this work? Do I download the program onto my PC or do I visit that website on my curve and download it to the phone?

Also, how do I download the latest update to my phone? I have a BB Curve 8330m.

Thanks.

Remember when flying inverted that down is up and up is EXPENSIVE!

you can download the app store ota:

http://www.blackberry.com/appworld/download

Where did you get failing from that blog? I think the app store is ok, but needs a little more refinement IMO. I'm sure once they are older than a few weeks into it we'll see it changed. I also noticed that blog state that it wasn't Storm ready, but mine works fine with it........

BTW, did anyone notice RIM's financial reports? Hmmmm, yeah, blackberry failing.........

I'm sorry but as far as a business class secure messaging device, the IPhone doesn't hold a candle to the blackberry.

As a home user wizbang device The blackberry doesn't hold a candle to the IPhone.

Agreed.

The whizbang market is somewhat of a new venture for RIM, so I cut them some slack in that regard, apple has that nailed with a slick GUI but there's more to PDA apps than music recognition and fart emulators....

J/K iphone lovers, don't get your backs up!

I know it may be hard for some of you, but again for the Iphone knockers if you don't like the IPhone, then why are they trying to copy!

I am not, but still ask the same question?
I'm sorry but as far as a business class secure messaging device
Another typical answer, but it does not hold water! I use mine for work & in fact replaced my BB Cure 8310 with it! My nephew who is a project manager for Intel and several in is dept. also use the IPhone for work.

They will want to say the phone is not secure, but it is just as secure as the BB or your laptop! It is enterprise that makes it secure not BB!

I use my iPhone for business as well. Long time, no problems. Its a nice phone. No doubt about it.

I tried the BB in the store. When comparing the 2, I chose the iPhone. Never looked back.

When you guys say you use your iphone for business, do you mean for emails?

Can the iphone work out of the box with microsoft exchange, lotus domino, novell groupwise?

Can your iphone open and edit microsoft word, powepoint and excel documents outta the box through email?

Can you cut and paste text while editing with the iphone (I think with version 3.0 of the iphone that is now possible)

Is your iphone quad band capable? when you travel can you use it outside the US? (possible, I don't know the true answer to this)

If you are on business travel and your phone dies in the middle of nowhere, can you swap out the battery or do you use a tree to plug it into?

So, my question to you is when you guys are saying you use it for business, what exactly are you using it for?

Oh, and encryption for blackberry mail is done at the server, which is far better than on-device which I think is the iphone solution.

Guys, if I am wrong on these points, I am grown up enough to be proven wrong and take it. Now I don't know what the exact capabilities of verson 3.0 is gonna be, so that might change things. BTW, I'm not an Iphone hater, I actually like it, but it's not the be-all-end-all device that people make it out to be.
I know 2 multi-million dollar business owners who went for the iphone when it came out for their business, and BOTH of them are back to blackberry shortly thereafter...

Yes

Can the iphone work out of the box with microsoft exchange, lotus domino, novell groupwise?

Yes, as long as you have outlook web access. My friend is using it with lotus as we speak. Can't speak for anything else

Can your iphone open and edit microsoft word, powepoint and excel documents outta the box through email?

It's coming with Dataviz

Can you cut and paste text while editing with the iphone (I think with version 3.0 of the iphone that is now possible)

Soon

Is your iphone quad band capable? when you travel can you use it outside the US? (possible, I don't know the true answer to this)

[I]Yes, you can use the phone in other countries. I have used it in London, Paris, and Germany without any problems

If you are on business travel and your phone dies in the middle of nowhere, can you swap out the battery or do you use a tree to plug it into?

No, can't swap out the battery but I have a backup battery pack that charges my phone real fast.

So, my question to you is when you guys are saying you use it for business, what exactly are you using it for?

Exactly for that....business. I also use it for my personal email as well. Just like any other BB user out there.

Nice to see the other guys finally catching up with Palm

Shame Palm will probably not survive, despite being first by a number of years.

Exchange, use Web access or have your IT set it up with enterprise. Lotus & Novell, people still use that? I have no need, so not sure on Novell
Can your iphone open and edit microsoft word, powepoint and excel documents outta the box through email?
Yes I can read out of the box on all, but if you want to edit use Mariner Calc. PowerPoint is pretty cool, you can view out of the box with all graphics, but you can also convert through Quicktime play as a presentation!

The first-generation phone hardware was quad-band GSM with EDGE; the second generation also adds UMTS with HSDPA
If you are on business travel and your phone dies in the middle of nowhere, can you swap out the battery
No, but I have no need. I keep it charged by my car, computer, power outlet or a power pack. Tell me what happens if your BB breaks, will RIM replace it after you owned for over 90 Days? I can tell you no! When mine broke, they told be to contact my cell company, the cell company told me I would need to replace at my cost or go back to RIM. I went back to RIM and they wanted $140 to just look at it! On the other hand, Apple will replace no question asked as long as no damage to it for 1 year & if you pay for Apple Care you get two more years!

The other issues like cut & paste are being addressed with the new software coming.

This is a Ford vs. GM debate and could go on and on......

I actually like the phone and may actually buy one one day to play with again, but;

My biggest beef is that whenver there is a mention of a blackberry (which is the best of course), or any other device for that matter, some apple drone jumps in and tells me how good his ipod phone is , even though it has nothing to do with the topic at hand (see above for details). This happens time and time again and quite annoying really, so I'll always fan those flames I also visit the various PDA forums, and I can tell you that the iphone gets no love in a lot of cases, but yet the legacy continues somehow.......

I've been a BB business user for 10 years (IT Project Manager). Had one the company supplied and one that was mine for personal business. Switched to the iPhone a couple months ago. The iPhone is like going from a dial up modem to a cable modem. Once you experience it, you'll never want to go back.

The BB has better Exchange integration but in regards to the iPhone, you simply can't place a value on playing with iFart during status meetings.
