Well, it finally happened. Went out to fly my gasser, and the pull cord broke. Think i'll try and replace the cord. I don't feel like spending $38 for a new assembly. Has anyone replaced the pull cord. Any problems?

I don't imagine it would be too hard to replace the pull cord.

Hi

Like peter says "Easy as !!!!!"

First put a new piece of cord on
Note the loop at the end of the spring

Note the little slash where the spring loop fit in

Put the two parts together like on the picture,
use a very small amount of grease on the black part,
rotate the white part counter clock wise untill
the spring gets in place, after that rotate the
white part to winde up the spring 2 x 360 (personal choise)
put the rest of the parts together.

BTW use a little locktite on the screw

Regards Bo

I took mine off and took it up to the guy at the local lawnmower shop and he did it for me in about 3 min. I think I paid him 8 bucks or so. With my luck, I figured the spring would pop out if I did it.

Finding cheap cord is the hard part. I got some cord at HDepot that was slightly larger which decreases the amount of turns that you can put on the wheel. It will last longer but you need an easy starting engine or you will tend to go to the end of the rope. Not recommended for those without chokes.

How about the metal insert that goes in the center to replace the plastic one. Anyone know where to buy this part? Currently Hanson's has been out of stock for 3 months and has no estimate when they will return. If you're going to rebuild your pull starter, might be nice to get a metal insert too--if you can find one for sale.

Hi

Any boat/saling store will have cord in all sorts of
dimentions, and they are alot more durable than anything
one can get from a small engien shop
