Looking on the web sites I see that rear bearings for the Hyper cost $6.97 from Rc bearings as opposed to $23.95 from Boca bearings ( for the stainless bearings ). This is a pretty huge difference. Is there any real difference in the quality or how long they last????

The Bocas have a Stainless steel retainer and 440C balls and races. The RC Bearings have a plastic retainer and who knows what type of stainless the balls and races are. This is the reason of the cost difference.

Will one last longer than another? Don't know, I have never tried the RC Bearing ones. I do know that Boca has excellent customer service though.

Hi Nappyroots - I see the bearings you got are chrome steel = not stainless - does anyone have an opinion which is best???

Double Springs wouldn't a plastic retainer be better like the OEM bearings. A local engineering firm was alittle concerned when I went to buy a bearing locally as he thought if the retainer failed it would be bits of metal through the engine

Stainless will of course resist corrosion better, so you could consider it to be better. If your heli doesn't sit around without being started for long periods it probably won't make a difference.

The Stainless steel retainer definately costs more than the plastic and is more durable. The plastic retainers are rated slightly higher speed wise, 36,000 rpm vs. 30,000 rpm.

Which retainer is better? It is a trade off, higher rated speed for durability. In this application it probably doesn't make much difference. If a retainer breaks the results aren't good, regardless if it is plastic or metal, the balls are still metal.

the bearings are cheap and easy to replace. get whatever you want. i only replaced my bearings as i just got the motor from someone who left sig fuel dried up in the motor and it was shot. most of our fuels dont gum up so bad anymore and most wont have a problem with any of these bearings. i never oil my motors and they all are great
