Looking for info on the above setup from people who have/had this setup. How is this combo for 3D flight? What would be the best battery to go with? 6S? Also do you need to run a reciever battery also or does that run off of the ESC?

I haven't 3Ded mine, just got it up in the air but yes it will 3D just fine. Any 6s 3850 or larger lipo will work just fine. Get a 25c or higher lipo. I couldn't find any el-cheap-o batteries in stock so I'm flying 7s2p a123's right now. Has plenty of power. I run a UBEC off of the main battery. You can do that or run a seperate battery and regulator....whatever floats your boat.

You will need a separate UBEC. There are lots of good high voltage BEC’s on the market. They are more reliable and less weight that a separate receiver battery. Something rated at 2.5 amps or higher and 6s LiPo and higher is what you want. I like the Kool Flight Systems high voltage Ultimate BEC myself as you can use it if you decide to upgrade to more than 6s voltage http://www.fxaeromodels.com/product...roducts_id=1574

The Castle Creations BEC is also popular but it has a max limit of 6s LiPo http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bi...p?&I=LXSWL3&P=7

For 3D an 11t pinion is recommended.

You need a large 6s LiPo rated of 25C or 30C. It needs to have high capacity and a reasonable weight. I like Flightmax batteries the best. They are new this year and have better performance than most at a new low price. I see that they are out of stock but should be available next week or so.

i use that set up plus a gaui bec(3A@5.8V), 2000mAh lipo for electronics, 550mm mavrick cf blades, and true rc 4000 mAh lipo. i do mild 3d and sport flying. 3 ds821's and a 401/9254 on the tail. i get 5:30 seconds of flight. i would recommend better batteries if you are really going to be whipping it around doing hard 3d.

I got plenty of flights in today at the super windy field. Was 25 mph steady with gusts to 34mph.....our field is in the bottoms just off the Missouri River. All in a huge corn field minus the corn. Anyway I'm always amazed at how well the Raptors do in severe wind. When I got there at 9:30 am one guy flew a 60 sized plane and said it was too much. I got 3-6.5 min flights in at a calculated 2100 rpm headspeed. Wind was no big deal except on some passes into the wind I had to hit full pitch to get it started. Did all the basic flips and rolls and large loops with a bunch of FFF in there.

This is going to be a fine 3D machine. Motor and batteries were cool if anything and the charger put back 3500 mah so I still can raise the headspeed a bit or atleast raise the percentage up for the 80% I was running it at. The Hyperion servo's rule. .11 is fast, I don't care who you are specially for 38 bux. The Spartan/DS20GMD is rock solid. The tail didn't even bounce in side flight into the 25+ mph wind. Crazy....just crazy.

I'm just doing mild 3D stuff but it will do more than I can. Only negative thing if anything is the 10 degree limit on pitch. I'm used to running 11 on my other two heli's....it makes them start and stop faster but I think I'll get used to better collective management in no time.

Very happy with this so far.

Thanks for the posts guys! Who makes Hyperion servo's and where can you get them? I've never heard of them. Are they digital?

My setup:

Zippy-H: 6S 5000mAh Battery 20-30C (the $130 one, not the Flightmax one)
Hyperion DS20-FMD on Cyclic
Hyperion DS20-GMD on Tail
LogicTech 2100T Gyro
Castle Creations CC10 BEC
Stock 10T pinion (I got the -K11 Kit)
SAB4 blades (old fiberglass blades I had from the Raptor 30). But I've hear good things about those Mavrik CF blades.

I have tached my Headspeed at 2000RPM using an optical Tach while hovering.

Mine flies very well in the wind, just like my Raptor .30 V1 Nitro (well, my e550 flies better overall though).

3D? Well, that's a loose term. I can do flips pretty low and it just seems to float in the air. Not as fast flips as my 450 but the e550 will do them really nice.
