I put my 520 in my 600N the other night and got to fly it yesterday. The piro rate is awesome, same everytime. Stops on a dime, no drifts.

This sucker is tiny much smaller than the pictures. About the size of a thumb nail.

I will try to take some pics next to a 611.

I put a 520 with the bls251 servo on a gas predator. I have to agree... awesome gyro. Very pleased.

Hey Jeff Eric just got one and I saw it yesterday and couldn't believe how small it was even compared to the Spartan.

Tiny, tiny, tiny

it may be tiny but with the wires that are supplied it weighs EXACTLY the same as a Spartan.

but with the wires that are supplied
Even those of us who are very weight concious would have a hard time justifying buying a GY520 over a Spartan based on weight savings. 9 grams or 16 grams, GRAMS!

The detachable leads are one of the benefits of the GY520 setup. They send you 13" leads that will be long enough even on a 90 size ship with the gyro in back and radio in front. If you are putting it in a TREX700 where the gyro and receiver on in the front you can, but don't have to, drop down to 2" leads. While that may not be a significant weight savings it sure makes it easy to tidy up the installation without chopping your leads.

Anyone who can find short male/male leads in stock, please post a link. I had to chop my 13" leads up.

You are right they are not available from Futaba yet as far as I know. Tower shows late May.

I just wadded mine up on the T700 for now until they are out.

Jack

PS I was concerned about the light system for programing because I am color blind. Turned out to work very well. Took a bit of trial and error to understand the system but once understood it was easy as pie. I really like the limit system. It moves in very small increments so you can really dial it in.

If I bought a Trex 250 I'd probably get the 520 but anything larger even a 450 would still get a spartan. AFAIK Futaba isn't allowing the user to update the firmware and while that may not be at all neccesary it's nice to have the ability.

Also you *could* shorten the Spartan wires too

Wyorcflyer, it's exactly the same on a Spartan if you havent tried one

Help us out here! You have a Spartan, buy a GY520 and give us a comparison!

Jack

BTW I have not tried the Spartan but would like to. No question it is the king of the hill. Not sure if the GY520 will equal it or not.

I have both. I think the GY520 has the edge on performance.

Also, the Futaba is capable of a much faster piro rate than the Spartan. I found this out when I replaced my Spartan and didn't adjust the rudder ATVS. 120% is wicked fast!

So you put the 520 on the heli that had a Spartan on it? That is the best comparison possible. Please fill us in on the performance differences!

Also what heli?

How do you set your tail pitch slider endpoints when you set up a 520?

How do you set your tail pitch slider endpoints when you set up a 520?
You set the sides independently. You move the rudder stick to move the slider to the limit. If you go too far push the rudder stick the other way. Back and forth until you are satisfied. Then push the button, then do the same for the other side.

What I liked is the fact that the slider moves in very small increments so you can really get it dialed in. In fact at first you may not think it is moving at all.

Yes, my T-Rex 250. I already had the tail dialed in with a 9257 and the performance was great.

The GY520 just has a more precise and instantaneous feel to it. The tail is incredibly solid when hovering in wind and the boom doesn't move a millimeter on full pitch climbouts. The piro rate consistency is amazing and right/left piros are always exactly the same speed under any condition. Also, the right/left ATVs are equal, no adjustment needed to get equal rates.

I can't get the tail to blow out no matter what I try.

Thanks, man, I appreciate the info. I was curious. That's similar to the Spartan. I sure like that.

I really don't care that its smaller than the Spartan because the Spartan and even the mini-G is small enough for me and I don't own nor I plan to get a micro ever again to even make a difference.. However, I am pleased to hear that its rock solid as far as performance. You guys are killing me with this.. its small/awesome and holds good.. LoL. How about some technical details so I can make a decision whether to get one. My credit card is shaking right now.

Bee,
I love your responses. Thankyou for the info.
