I've had one of these 13.8V 40A Power Force power supplies for a year now that takes care of all my needs - I run multiple chargers from it at once

(says 12V output in the add but is 13.8V)

You can't beat the price for a 40amp. power supply.

Why is your PC supply not going to cut it??

I'm just going to get a second one of these and run two chargers off each one... $15 for 12v 34a 360w.

I'll have one 10a/200w and one 5a/50w charger connected to each one charging 6s 2500mah batts. Should be plenty of overhead I would think, no?

Seriously, if I'm mistaken please let me know I'm still a noob...

That supply is still only $25 at Newegg and $5 for some plugs... not sure why anyone would spend $100 on those supplies that are linked.

This supply requires nothing to make it run just short the green wire with a black and it turns on

To charge large 6s packs at 5 amps you will have to have about a 500 watt powersupply to be safe. they are usually way over rated.

I have been using a Rivergate Bulldog 30 amp power supply for awhile (it is what I used when I raced RC Cars) but I recently picked up a pair of the new FMA 28amp power supplies and absolutely love them.

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

Why would you need 500w to deliver only 125w? For a 6s5000mah pack charging at 5 amps only requires 125w... I've heard of doubling needed power to have plenty of overhead but quadrupling?

Or am I making another noob mistake here?

A buddy of mine flies a 700e on 12S and uses a Bulldog 45A/725/600W PS and can just barely charge four 6S/5000 packs at 5A using two 610iDUO-II chargers so that's 150W per pack - He said he tried to charge one more small batt at just 1A but it couldn't handle it just as our other buddy predicted

I honestly don't know the wattage output of my PS but I assume it's around 550W so should handle up to three 6S packs at 5A but I've yet to pull more than half that wattage with my little 3S packs

I do know that I put my PSU in fail safe mode when I tried to connect a second charger to it while the first was charging at 5 amps. No battery just powering on the charger. I'd say your buddy is lucky to be using only the one PSU, he's got zero breathing room.

Looking at the PC power supplies, the placard on them tells you what the output for each voltage is in amps. It is usually less than the "total" output of the power supply. Also, the charger needs a higher input due to the fact that, especially on something like a 6s pack, the charger has to boost the voltage from 12 to whatever the pack voltage (over 25v at full charge on a 6s) and between that and the fact that the whole process is not 100% efficient, you may need a significantly higher input amperage to make up the difference.

I'm getting a new PSU, not sure whuich one yet. My current one is a computer PSU rated at 250w and my 1010 keeps cutting out. Works for everything except my 6s 5000mah packs.
