well after all my talk of going a few hundred flights without any incidents on the mt major disaster last night.

I was up late saturday night,I replaced every link on the head that had not been replaced.took my time and got the head set up PERFECTLY,and I mean perfectly.first time ever, all servo 90, arms level EVERYTHING.put in a brand new MTSE motor.went to the field yesterday.first flight 20 seconds in switched to idle up and the main shaft bent in flight.yes thats right I saw it with my own eyes, the heli made a bizzare sound and just folded up into itself.I actually snapped servo arms in half,I cant belive it

I wont have time to rebuild before this weekends funfly,so I'll get the SE and ATOM500 ready for some flying

damage without doing a full autopsy

boom,mainshaft,washout arms,lower frame,battery tray,main gear,AR bracket,several links,2 servo arms,flybar

I think you are supposed to use the hardened mainshaft with the se motor.I wish I had it on video.I am still in total disbelief. If I did not see it myself I would think that something gave out CAUSING the mainshaft to bend, but every link was new and I watched it actually bend when i hit idle up,the whole head shifted

Not the first time I've heard of it. The Outrage G5s were bending shafts in flight before they switched to the hardened shafts. Damage was always pretty spectacular.

Sorry to hear about that Fender, but you can be proud that this was not pilot error. BTW, how many flights on that main shaft? Might be good to replace those every 3 to 6 hundred flights.

if I had to make an educated guess, close to 800 flights.maybe more

right before it went though I was thinking MAN this SE motor ROCKS

its all good,it will be rebuilt with a hardened mainshaft of course,or I may throw some new bearings in the old motor, and put it back to stock,as its been as reliable as one could want

boy,do I wish that one was on video

Sorry about the MT Fender, that sucks.

Funny thing though, a guy at the club was always bending his Blade 400 main shaft in flight (Hard 3D, outrage boom stretch) and was using modified MT shafts because he couldn't bend those. Go Figure?

If Pete Townsend had an RC heli, it would look that.

heh..today I was having small vibrations on my heli that I can't get rid of by balancing the blades so I removed everything and spin it up and adjusted everything stage by stage.

I removed the blade grips, weigh them to .000 oz accuracy! and weight every head part to that. Put the flybar on spin it adjust until no vibrations at all, do the same to paddles.

Tail blades and grips are also done that way, now with flybars and tail blades install spin up no vibration at all! My balance plug on battery is solid, tip of zipties are only moving a tiny bit from motor spin.

Now balancing the blades.

I can go total it tomorrow.. heh!
