I like Sony camera's except for the proprietary memory and cables they use. other than that the camera is nice, a friend of mine has that camera (or previous model) she loves it. I personally prefer having a DV Tape. If you go on a trip and you loose the camera you loose everything you filmed. unless you bring your laptop with you. that's just my thoughts. good luck on deciding and check the reviews.

I've always liked the Sony camcorders, in fact I'm using the SR-12 right now and been very happy with it. I've always looked at Sony and Canon as being pretty comparable as far as the upper end of the consumer/prosumer lines. That having been said however, you may want to wait two weeks and take a look at the Sanyo VPC-FH1. It'll do full 1080 @ 60p. Sony is 60i and Canon is 30p. The higher the framerate the better typically for fast motion. The FH1 is essentially the same internals as the VPC-HD2000 which is available now, just a more traditional form factor. I wouldn't normally recommend a Sanyo for a camcorder, but the reviews of the HD2000 are very positive and the FH1 looks pretty promising. Also, from the reviews so far, it has the best low light performance of any of the consumer camcorders, Sony, Canon and Panasonic included. And, the price is only $500.

You'll be able to see pubic hair with that. I'm sure you're not going to use it for that application But if you do I'm just saying.............

I hope you bought it from Amazon - they are selling it for $399...

EDIT - Nevermind. There were selling it for $399 yesterday but it looks like it it sold out. There are still a couple of dealers listed on Amazon selling for around $400.

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on the camera when you get it and seeing some sample video. I'm still tempted to get one.
