Has anyone given a belt-driven tail for the Aurora any thought?

Looking at the old FX/EFX drive, the two systems are remarkably similar, making the conversion incredibly simple to do.

There are parts available to convert the Aurora tail drive to that of the Avant FX and EFX.
The 3rd bearing block might appear to be optional, but I'm not sure.

The Aurora tail box would only require simple modifications including removal of bearings (and possibly boring it out).

The only hurdle I can think of, is fitting a pulley to the tail shaft.

Very interesting.

What about a belt in the right size?
- Of course removing the knobs in the boom holder, would make the system a little adjustable.

It should the also be easier to find a suitable alu boom because the inner diameter doesn't have to fit the TT bearings.

In total a much cheaper solution.

... and the new Hirobo Turbolence has a belt, so why not?

Because the "ultimate and bestest heli ever" is an excellent helicopter platform being easily & fully customizable to suit a wide variety of pilots and their unique personal preferences and flying styles.

...And because I can.

That's always the best reason . I seem to remember Augusto saying a belt drive would come so I assume it can be done.

The FX/EFX tail case was that of the donor heli. Freya, Evo, etc.

The Hirobo 90's have a hexagonal tail boom, so using the tail on the Aurora is out of the question.

I don't own an Aurora but I have found the hole patterns to be close on a couple of parts when comparing my FX to an Aurora.

I'm not sure about the tail boom clamps hole spacing but the FX clamps might fit enabling the hex tailboom. If it did work you would have to use the Hirobo tail. Might be better off buying another FX.
