I have read in several threads on this forum that the Futaba 9cap is lousy for ccpm setups... how so?

thanks in advance...

Newer systems group the output so the three servos get updated at nearly the same time (they are still sequentail)

1,2,3

With a 9C it goes 1,2 then 3, 4, and 5 get their updates, then 6 (the third ccpm servo) gets its update.

So there's a slight (milliseconds) lag between the servos getting their position updates. Some people notice it but they have to be a pretty darn good pilot. I flew CCPM for years with a 9C. My x9303 feels more connected but not by any wide margin.

It used to be bad with planes with dual elevator servos and large control throws, where it defaults to 1 and 6, if you whipped the elevators up and down you'd see the second one trying to play catch up and that I could feel in flight with my bigger planks.

Spektrum DX7, DX7SE
JR X9303 (DSX9 in non-US markets), 12X
Futaba 10C, 12FG, 12Z, 14MZ

These are some of the most popular, and fastest, radios on the market. Most sponsored guys are flying one of these radios. Just depends on your brand preference, what you look for in a radio, and price.

So essentially using a 9cap with a 9 channel 148rx is not primitive, right? After reading a bit on RR, I got the impression that on eCCPM machines, even this millisec lag is really bad and plays havoc in flight. I am in the beginner to intermediate stage, and I guess I wont notice these at all.

Havoc? No. If you've never flown a DX you'd never know you had a "latency" issue.

I have a 9C and haven't noticed any havoc in flight. The numbers say that it is slower than most other radios, but I have only flown a DX7 a couple times and I can't quite tell the difference. I'm sure once my skill set improves I can begin to pick out the subtle differences in speed between different radios.

Go back a few years, prior to the introduction of Spektrum, FASST...

... when those same "pros" were flying that disgusting old, decrepit, latency-riddled 72 MHz PCM stuff like you have. Except for the fact they've had more practice in the meantime, those "pros" were doing the same stuff then, that they are doing now.

It isn't the radio that makes them fly like they do.
