Has anyone considered the G1 for AP?

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonicdmcg1/

It looks like it's the first "reflex" that has real live view and you can autofocus in live view. It's light (650g with the lens), and has a good review. I am looking forward to buy it but, is there any remote shutter made for this camera? I mean a plug & play remote shutter. Someone has experience with this camera?

Here is the remote control. Can easily make one with a 2.5mm(?) jack and an e-switch... for about 25 bucks, total.

I know about the remote but I have no idea of doing the remote hack thing or the e-switch invent. Could you be a little more specific about how to do it? Someone made the trick with my canon remote trigger some years ago, but I don't think I can solder so tiny things.

It's simple. Buy a dimension engineering picoswitch - or equivalent, cut the wire from the remote shutter button to the plug & wire the two wires to the contacts on the picoswitch. Job done, only tools required are a scissors and small screwdriver. Working like a charm on my 450D, tried servo & GentLed, wouldnt go back.

That remote is definitely a big plus. That alone beats the Olympus E-420 hands down.

The remote is a little more complicated than just using a switch. Plus the 2.5mm connector must have 4 rings not just 3.

I made one from an old servo PWB for the Panasonic L10 I am using for my aerial shots. Worth it's weight in gold just for the plug and play aspect. No more lining up servo's or worrying about missed shots.

The G1 is a great camera. Panasonic will also be coming out with a 7 - 14mm lens which will be great for AP.

Drop me a PM and I can provide more info if you are interested.

Are you sure about the 4 rings??

The switch should only need the sleeve(the big main shft) that is the common. The tip and ring can be commoned (shorted) to fire the focus and shutter at the same time. Don't worry camera will still focus like normal, just won't have any prefocus capability.

Just insert the sleeve wire and the shorted tip/ring into the Dimension Eng. E-switch and your done. You will never mess with another type of shutter trigger.

You can buy the 90 degree angled 2.5mm plug at any electronics store for about 2 bucks. Saves the $80 or so you will hack up if buying the unit from panosonic.

The FZ50, L1 and L10 have all been used with this trigger. The G1 should not be any different.

The trigger is on the 3rd pin from the tip. The one that cooresponds to the long sleeve on the stereo type connector. Without a 4 pin connector, you can't trigger the focus and shutter.
The camera doesn't trigger with an open or a direct short as you would expect. You need to feed back a specific voltage level.
