First off, please forgive, I need to vent Well my DX6i crapped out today in the middle of setting up a new nitro heli. I'm beginning to question the QC on Spektrum products. I have about 5 recievers that no longer work and two DX6i's that are fussy. Two of the rx's were never crashed and they just stopped working. No LED, no nothing. I sent one back again, a new unflown AR6200 which won't bind....again. Its never even been mounted in an aircraft. Both of my 6i radios will lose settings all by themselves. Not all the settings but some like subtrim or servo reversing which caused my to crash my favorite corsair. I resorted to just using one primary radio for my frequent fliers but today was the last straw. I finally had the pitch setting correct on my new Pantera heli that I've been building for the last 5 days when I noticed that the gyro would not respond or initialize even after it was working fine on this heli during setup. Then as I started to stir the sticks I had a severe shudder at midstick as I was passing thru center. The problem came and went but had the heli been in the air it would have been a crash. I still could not get the gyro to see a signal from the rx so I switched recievers and still nothing. I pulled my other 6i and no gyro response. However the shudder was gone. I powered up my TRex500 which is bound with the suspect radio and even worse. The signal from the Tx would totally disappear as the LED went in and out on the rx. It took about 2 to 6 seconds for the response to return. Now had this been airborn it would have been a disaster. The battery was also fully charged in the radio. This sucks. I've never had any issues even with my cheapie Hitec 4c neon radio but so many with this stuff. I can't trust it anymore. If I could afford a Futaba I'd be programming one right now. Damn, and I have so much invested in Spektrum recievers in 12 other aircraft.

Frustrated!

I don't do 3D....no wait. Oh thats right, I can't do 3D!

IMHO, The dx6 is a low end radio. If you dont want to spend alot of money I would get a dx7 and use all of your receivers with it. They are excellent radios for the money.

If you spend a little more you could get an x9303 alot better radio by far.

The DX6i, I never ever considered to be a proper radio for my helis. I have had a DX 7 since they first came out and I've never had a single problem with it or the original receiver which has been through many a crash and is missing one antenna, lol. I have no problem trusting my stuff to Spektrum.

Are you sure the rx's are compatible with JR radios? I might looka at the Futaba 7C, looks like something I can afford.

Flame suit on!
You could always get a real radio = Futaba!

Seriously though, consider the JR 9303 if you have the funds. The man machine interface is the transmitter. The better that interface, the better the experience.

Just my opinion and worth every bit you paid for it.

No,No..The other left!

Wow this is a little scary to hear. I am waiting to get a second mailing label from horizon for my dx6i. Its already been there for the recall fix from last month. I got it back and used it 2 or 3 times and its acting up again. I was thinking about just asking them to replace the radio with new, but now i'm thinking they need to upgrade me with a dx7. I have heard and experienced their customer service is great, I just hope they come though for me now. I'm just not really in a position to pay to much for the upgrade, i'm kinda nervous as whats going to happen.

suspect
well i've seen 2 of my co-fliers using DX6i without any problems. they're flying jets and helis normally without any issue.

taco's dilemma could be something else than the radio. just my opinion.

I'm not so sure. I fiddled with the radio again tonight. I swapped out the rx twice with different AR6100's I had laying around. Still the same shudder and no gyro response. I then plugged in a lowly Ar6000 and the gyro signal came back so it was functional but the shudder was still there. I separated all the wires, wiggled them around, recharged the flight pack and no change. All of the servos function but when you move the sticks slowly they all have a very ratchty or notchy feel to them as well as the twitch or shudder. I've never had these issues with any other model using the same radios. I'm at a loss. I don't want to send the tx to Horizon. Man, I've never had so many issues with one brand of radio...ever. This is not even bitching about settings that suddenly disappear or become reversed. Damn it. I guess I need to spend money I don't have for a new radio system. I seriously do not want to crash my new Pantera and I don't want to spend my days chasing an electrical spook, I just want to fly. Rats, I've lost all faith in the DX6i.

Can I have your 5 receivers that you say don't work?
Anything else you say doesn't work, I'll take that too.
Whatever you say is junk, just send it here.

Can I send you (COD of course)that rusty washer/dryer I have sitting in my backyard instead? Then there's that clogged up airfilter from my JohnDeere mower I just pulled out. . I replaced all my servos tonight and the shudder is still there. So, I've changed out the rx, the servos, checked voltage and replaced the gyro. I'm outta ideas, anyone else have some that might help out a desperate flier?

It would seem that since things act up as you move your sticks, and that you have a DX6i, AND that there is a recall for DX6i radios because the stick pots might be defective AND you DON'T want to send the radio to Horizon to have it fixed, you are your own worst problem.

The fact that multiple receivers act the same way, and it involves moving the sticks, and when you do, stuff goes nuts, your radio is one of those that NEEDS to go back to Horizon. Wishing that the radio will heal itself while ignoring a recall directly associated with the symptoms you are experiencing, is self-defeating.

Bite the bullet, return the radio for repair before you give up on it. Horizon can't fix it it they don't have it.

-----

You also say that you have way too much invested in receivers for 12 other aircraft...yet you insist on buying TWO of the bottom of the line DX6i transmitters. What's the economy in THAT? A DX7 TX isn't all THAT expensive, and it's by far the better TX, and even the next step up - X9303 -- shouldn't be out of reach if you truly have all that equipment ready to fly.

Is there any chance the batteries in your TXs are toast?

Yup.. several recalls now on DX6Is.
I dumped mine like a bad habit a long time ago. it just felt cheap.

love my DX7 but need more channels.

its a solid radio and has some nice features.

shameless plug I'd let mine go for $135 shipped/PPed

dekshema, you assume alot dude. For one thing I did not ignore the recall. When I spoke to the Horizon rep he said mine is not affected and its likely some other issue. I don't mind the information and I appeciate it but you should mind your attitude, not everyone is as smart as you. I'm way out here on an island in the middle of the pacific that has zero support, no hobby shop and practically everthing I know is self taught. Like I said, thanks for the info but you're right. I don't expect my friggin radio to HEAL itself.

Turbotaco,

Can you borrow a DX7 from someone and bind your heli to it? This would be proof positive that the TX is the problem if all the symptoms go away.

I realize you are in the pacific so that why I ask rather than assuming you have already done this.

A bad day flying is better than a good day at work any time!

dkshema did ask a good question about TX batteries.

No,No..The other left!
