About 10 years ago I met a guy who showed me his AMA card. His number was 15...

Joined the AMA in the early 80's, #22674. Didn't renew from '95 thru '04. In 2005 sent in the application (different address), they sent me the card with the same # 22674. Must have a pretty good archive.

whoever the lucky guy with AMA# 1,000,000 is should get a free life membership.

How 'bout that for a promo to get people to sign up for AMA coverage?
If that doesn't get at least a few non members to join, I don't know what else would.

unless you fly at a field that requires it, I agree.
I should ask my dad what his number is....he started in RC about '60 or so.

The net present value of a life membership is about $1200 assuming you live and are in the hobby another 25 years + many other inflation assumptions

The current AMA membership dues are $58/ year.

At that rate, provided the rates stay exactly the same, after 25 years you would have paid $1450.
Thats a little more than your figure of $1200.

I joined in 58, I think. I am not a CD. Just old.

It don't matter how you get there, if you don't know where your going.

Mine is 333745. I joined around 1985. I should have bought a life membership back then.

Geez, I feel old. 5255XX. It was late 80's or early 90's when I joined as a junior member.

I have been thinking about the life membership. Granted at today's rates it takes 25 years to pay off, but I don't see membership and insurance getting any cheaper. As I recall 20 years ago it cost about 2/3 of what it does now.

I give up on Loctite, nothing lasts long enough to vibrate loose anymore.

So are they close to a million yet?
I saw yesterday a person's AMA card that was 960,000ish. They've got to be really close.

actual membership is well below 200k in 2011. numbers are retired - that is when someone does not renew, the number remains tied to the person.
