Registering second hand Spartans
This is possible, I have infact registered one of my Spartans that was bought second hand (came with v1.3 firmware I think and has a very low serial number).

You will face an issue if the original owner has already registered it, but there's the ability to flag a Spartan as "sold", which I presume then means it can be re-registered by someone else. Perhaps Angelos can chime in here and clarify this last point.

All the updater does is see that is has been registered. It does not do a verification between your computer/updater and registered profile.

Sooo and update should work regardless. The update starts, runs the serial number against the registered database... sees that it is registered away you go.

I should be getting my canle today and will do the update. I already have the loader and configuration files downloaded plus the driver installed for the cable. Does the cable come with instructions on how to do the update? I think I will need to either save the current configuration to the computer then reinstall it with the new firmware, or just reprogram it prior to the update. I too will like the bind plug to program as allot of the time I had trouble with using the switch, bad timing on my part. I am using this with a JR 9303 2.4 tramnsmitter. To me it looks like your connect the gyro to the pc and power it on, run the updater program for the new version and that should be all. I removed a JR 770 on my 500 and so far I am imoressed with how well it works. Can't wait to get the new firmware installed. Thanks Chuck

Extremely annoying: The Spartan web site says nothing about this and there are no details in the manual.

I submitted my email on the Spartan site but never received any confirming email or link. I don't see any way to submit my gyro serial number either.

This should be very clear on the site and it isn't.

Anyway, the firmware loader is not working and you can't register on their site either by user or gyro serial number.

Hey guys, the upgrade is a must. I did not think that I would notice a difference but I did. I did not think the Spartan could get any better but OMG! This thing is crazy good now! If you have not done the upgrade, DO IT!

I am bummed because I have not gotten to fly since I installed the update. Tomorrow a bunch of us are going to Toledo for the show, then I think it is supposed to rain Sunday.

What cable are you using? I have the older style Flash-Link with the blue connector. It is a POS. First, you have to download the drivers for the cable to emulate a COM port. It constantly locks-up and the communication link has to be re-established.

Anyone else having trouble with the Flash-Link cable? Does the newer style cable have the same problem or is it true USB?

I have the older cable, and it does give me problems at times. I usually just switch it from serial to usb and back and it starts working. Staying right in the config software.

Yeah... it would be nice to have the newer one that is not a serial emulator like one we have.

I have never had an issue with the blue connector version. Works fine for me. The newer one looks cooler, the blue link would be nicer since my laptop has bluetooth.

Just got done with the install and it went very easy. Anyone not familiar you will need the v1.08 configuration file to read the gyro for the serial number incase you don't have it or haven't registered the gyro yet. I currently use Norton 360 and had no problems with the download. It just asked me if I wanted to allow the program access to the web. Now if this weather would break but they are calling for rain with high winds today. I also am using the red usb connector and the worked great. Thanks Chuck

Holy crap guys...A friend just lent me his Spartan with the V2 firmware and it was head and heels over the previous 401 I had on my Beam E4.

In fact it was definitely on par if not better than the Solid G on my 600n.

But then again, a 450 electric VS a 600 nitro comparison would be unfair in the first place!

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter

With V1 the only downside I ever noticed was when doing piro reversals, the tail over sped for the first 360 degrees or so. In flight during piro funnels and piro anything else, the tail felt perfect. I'll give this a try tomorrow hopefully and see hoe it goes

That was actually at 80 points of accel./decel. gain. Seemed to be the only way to get rid of the bounce back on my 450. However on my 90, it felt perfect all the time.
