I've yet to measure the heli fully fueled and with all the accessories. I'll post the number once done.

I was told not to exceed 3000rpm. When they tested the heli at the field a few weeks back, it was between 2700 and 3000.

6oz main tank so approximately 6 minutes plus 2 additional minutes from the 2oz header tank. A good 7:45 to be safe.

95% assembled. The conversion itself took about 2 hours, including cutting of the frames and canopy. Installing the electronics (servos, gyro, governor) and running the wires took another 4 to 5 hours. It was recommended to use 6 magnets on the main gear so that took another 30 minutes plus waiting time for the exposy to cure. I still need to install the fuel filter and the external BEC.

I'm not completely happy with the wiring as I hate "rat nest" but giving the size of the 500 I may just have to go with it.

Took more pictures and will post them later today.

now I kind of have the bug for one of these conversion kits. Looks pretty cool!

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

Other than a mistake installing the magnets the assembling is now 99% complete. I just need to set the governor and adjust the rotor head. More pictures (with canopy on) added to the gallery. More pics tomorrow. I can't wait to mainden her.

Pic of servo throttle, magnets and location of the governor sensor added.

The sensor reads one side of the magnet only and I'd three of them the wrong way. They were removed and re-installed right side up. I also had the sensor bracket trimmed and moved away from the main gear a few millimeter.

With the throttle servo installed, I was unable to access the elev servo output shaft while working on adjusting the swashplate so it was removed and re-installed.

I'll mention the above, and others findings, to RCDepot in my report of the assembling to them by next week.

Took it up this morning and .... WOW!

I went to the field and I was the only one there so I could not have the head tached. Based on what I was told by the designer and feel, I'd the governot set at 60% in normal, 65% in stunt1 and 70% in stunt2.

First, the static weight appears to be the same with full tanks versus the E-version. In flight, the heli felt "lighter" then the E-version. This appears to be the consensus from other pilots who flew the test model.

Second, the head speed on the nitro sounds and feels faster than the E-version. May be because I'd the governor set higher than recommended. The next round of testing will be performed with the aid of another person to tach the head speed.

Finally, the power band through out the 6 minutes flight was the same in comparision to the E-vesion wherein you can feel the drop in power toward the end of the flight due drop in battery voltage.

I'd the needle 1 1/2 turn out so it's running rich for the first three tanks. I was having so much fun that I ran out of fuel while inverted

Pros: Fun Fun Fun. Fuel and fly
Cons: Having to fly it at a sanctioned field or empty lots away from people, pets and homes. Unlike the E-version which can be flew practically any where (but not near people and pets).

PS. There are few minor issues to report back to the designer but they were very minor.

Hi Guys, Wow I got to fly the 500 nitro today WOW WOW WOW....

Set up looks so easy... You do not have to buy new frames or anything.. Just drill a few small holes and one small frame mod and your done..

I had a chance to fly 2 of them today... @ Carson... WOW all the power you want and more supper sweet no bog.. it sounds great like a little trex 600..

It handes great just like flying a normal 500 with more power and longer flight time...
I have a standard 500 and I hate the 4 min flights as soon as I get warmed up i have to bringer down....

I going to up grade mine now I did order 2 and will be getting them this week.. RC Depot is taking orders now and is shipping this week..
Here is the link check it out....

I flew 8 tanks today. The tail, running Jr 770D/3500G combo developed a wag. It took some fixing (moving the ball link from 10mm to 6mm, adding two more layers of servo take, etc.) before the wag went away. I'm not fully happy with the 770D at this point and will try the Align 750 this week as the designer of the conversion has his running on 750 and his tail is solid. I also leaned it out from 1 1/2 turn to about 1 1/4 turn and increased the head speed in stunt1 mode to give it a bit more power. With the engine leaned out, I'm getting about 6:30 minutes on the safe side.

I left the camera at home so no pictures of it in flight.

The conversion kit, without OS37 and muffler, is now available for $239.99.

Hmmmmmm.... Seems like just a lot of mess and noise to me IMHO! Why would you take a perfetly great, powerful yet all be it clean, less noisy heli and turn it into the noisy, gass spilling, dirty Nitro monster???

Ahhhhh!!! Too much smoke! Too much SMOOOOOKKKKEEEEEE!!!!

For those who are wondering, how much does the nitro weight compared to the electic...

I received my conversion kit this weekend and finished weighing each of my electric components, then each of the nitro components.

Cause nitro fumes put my lady in the mood.

Walk on water long enough, eventually you will get your feet wet.

The smoke the smell the sound, it is all part of the allure of beating the air into submission! LOL

Really the fly land refuel fly theory comes into play here. Jason Kruase did the same type of thing to the 600 when he made the 600N different strokes, for different heli folks here dude!
