I received some good news over the weekend, albeit, secondhand. Apparently one of the City Council members is an AMA member who flies quads and wants to fly at Mare Island. Another “politically connected” gentlemen who flies as Mare Island reached out to his city contacts. He was told they are aware of the Mare Island Fliers situation and should have something worked out by the end of the month.

I will still follow up with the Mayor and City Council member who did respond to me.

If we don’t have anything by end of October I’d like to attend the first November City Council meeting. We will need some of the Vallejo guys to go with us.

The first November City Council meeting is on the 12th from 7-10pm at 555 Santa Clara Street.

I will find out how/if we can get on the agenda ahead of time.

I sent the Mayor a follow up email. He responded with "I'll check".

The City Council member who originally got us permission to fly at Mare Island sent me an email. He personally asked the City Manager about the situation and was told the City Manager is getting with the Project Work Director specifically about our issue in an effort to get something worked out.

He stated likely some sort of permit will be required and each flyer will have to have an AMA membership which includes liability insurance.

Hi,

The City of Vallejo sent me an Annual Permit Form to complete. There's a $150 application fee. I'm not sure if this is annually or one time. There is no charge for using Mare Island.

I will complete the form. They require a contact person. While I don't mind being the contact person I think the permit will be better received if one of our Vallejo residents is the contact. Any volunteers?

We will need to require an AMA membership to fly for insurance purposes.

I'll keep everybody updated on the progress.

Ron

The application was mailed on Monday. My contact said he'd let me know when they got it. I expect approval to take some time as just about every department head must sign it.

I'll keep everybody updated.

Best wishes to all our friends from Mare Island. Hopefully none of your loved ones were affected by that horrible storm.

I'm now with working with the City of Vallejo Legal department in an effort to get our application approved.

I've been optimistic in the past but this is the most progress I've mad in 7 months.

Because there is no official Mare Island Flyers group the City of Vallejo has issued me, personally, a license to use Mare Island. Under the license I am able to 'permit' others to use the site.

I need to have the license reviewed by an attorny and develop a 'permit' agreement. Basically the permit agreement will say you agree to abide by the City's terms and agree not to sue me if you have an accident.

You must be an AMA member to fly at Mare Island under these new terms! An AMA membership includes a 2.5 million dollar liability insurance policy. All permitees, (guests, observers, etc,) must have this insurance. This is the only way the City will agree to have anybody fly there.

I am only permitted for Sunday's from 9am until 4pm. I'm hoping we can expand the days in the future.

I should have this all done in a week or so. Please let me know if you have any comenst or questions.
