Pitch AFR is different on the ATX radios and I was at +/- 60 and am now up around +/-75 by going in on the servo arm. I'm running +/- 10.5 degrees or thereabouts. It flies much better.

Scorpion 3600 -vs- 3900
Guys, I really can't see the debate on these motors. Other than 'ease of installation', by that I mean same motor shaft thickness and length. Use of the Align (non-setscrewed pinion). Use of the stock ESC.

I don't see the debate.

For me it comes down to power. Its simple.

3600kv = 220 watts @ 39grams.
3900kv = 150 watts @ 32grams.

Am I missing something?

I'm just waiting on the pinions and I'll start testing.

All I can say is that in the past upgrading to a Scorpion has always been a kick in the pants from a power standpoint.

There may not be much difference in the numbers but we'll see when I fly it.

2206 3900

Got some flight testing done today. Motor runs really well and the higher headspeed makes the helicopter more crisp all-around. Power delivery is much more snappy. I had to turn down my gyro gain due to the higher tail speed.

I ran my flights right at 4 minutes and used 550 of 860 available mah (64%). So, I can go a bit longer than 4 minutes and will try 4.5 next time. This may be where the lower wattage becomes an advantage over the other Skorpion motor.

I did some static testing of the headspeed with a handheld tach. Unloaded headspeed was 5100 and loaded (approx hover pitch) was 4700. This is with a 15 tooth pinion, the stock ESC set to mid timing, and flat curves at 100%. I'll try high timing later.

Temps were very workable. The ESC and battery barely warmed up and the motor was only slightly warmer than the battery. That's after 4 flights back to back. The stock ESC seems to have no problem with this motor, which is nice because that was a weight saving measure.

3900 w/ 15Tooth.

Finally got my pinions. This thing is insane with the 15T and 3900. It climbs out faster than I expected. Use caution is all I can say.

Just installed the 3900kv on a 15t and all I can say is
tons of torque. Seems to be the perfect setup

Hi guys

I have about 15 flights on my 2206-3900 and a 15t pinion.

The head speed is way up and the heli performs like a rocket. It climbe quicker, flips/rolls quicker and flies faster.

I need to drop my flight times by about 30 sec. From 5:00 to 4:30. But it is worth it.

I love it. There is no way my std motor with 16t pinion is going back in.

I am using the Align std esc and it still hardly gets warm. No need to upgrade.

Regards
Paul

Do you realize that 15T on that motor hits 5000rpm?

People are running nearly 4000 on 450's so 5000+ on a 250 should be the standard for 3D IMO.

60% of the time, it works every time!

Centrifugal forces aside, unless you've got 40C or better batteries, the amp draw seems to be the limiting factor as to how much performance you can get out of a given motor/ESC combination. I'm wondering if anyone has a EagleTree they could hook up to the 3900 motor and see what kind of amperage it is pulling.

hi
Im using the 3900 Scorpion with 16t...

using mini Jazz governed at 80%..

VERY happy with this setup.. 5 mins for normal FFF, Loops, Rolls

4.3 mins for hard 3D

Using TP 45C packs

Everything is cool to the touch.

I think its a winning combo!!!

Crash-Prone and overcoming it!!!

what size mounting bolts?
Hi all... I have this motor coming shortly.

Does the 3900 motor come with some short hex bolts? those can be a pain to find. Putting it in the exi 250, trex clone.

thx for any info.
