So if I fly Futaba I will have to use two receivers – that can’t be right?

Also there are still a lot of us that fly FM on small helicopters.

If you fly with a traditional rx then you'd hook up to the mini-v with the same way you would with the full sized Vbar. Just hook up patch cables between the mini vbar unit and rx.

If your use 2.4ghz satellites then you plug those directly into the MiniV which eliminates the need for patch cabling and seperate main rx completely.

Although the Rondo and Gyrobot are very small you still have to figure in the extra size of the main rx and patch cabling. This is where the Mini V will save space in smaller birds.

o Installation on any brand flybarless head other then Mikado (not including Mikado flybarless conversion heads for other machines) will release support obligations by Mikado. (Mikado will only warranty the mini v-bar installed on authentic Mikado flybarless head kits or conversion kits; trex 250/450 will be available in the market very soon)
This is the part that would concern me more than anything.
Me: My Mini-V is not working.
Mikado: Too bad, I see in your gallery that you are running an RJX head on that heli. We cannot help you.
25 bucks to upgrade firmware V4. Thought that was a little rough
Now you can't use the MiniBar with anything but Mikado heads
So I guess you'll have to register your Minbar with a receipt for a Mikado head too
And Ralf personally tests every unit. Give me a break
In answer to the questions about the warrenty, RH posted this elsewhere on the internet yesterday...
This was a Pre RELEASE, not a pre - order as everybody keeps stating. These were 25 units that were offered to current 4.0 full sized Vbar users to potentially test before anyone else in the USA. The terms of the warrenty will not carry over to the general public of the MIni Vbar. All units have already been inspected by Ralf personally. Mikado wanted feedback from their 25 pre release customers who are already fully equipped with the 4.0 software/hardware knowladge who already used their exisiting products.
Hope this clears everyones speculations and rumors.

There was no speculation or rumor to it. It was spelled out in black and white right on the page that RH HAD the MiniBar posted.

If it was just meant for the original prerelase units why did they mention the 250/450 yet to be released heads that were in no way available for the "Pre Release" crowd

Remember that there are Trex 500 and Logo 400 heads available currently. I'm sure there were plenty of current Vbar owners that were wanting to convert these machines over to mini Vs.

Not really sure what the big fuss is about. If you don't have one of the pre-release units then it doesn't apply to you anyway. All terms were laid clearly out on the table before hand. If one was not satisfied with those terms then either wait for the actual release, or not buy one.

You guys are totally blowing this out of proportion!

Mikado is taking a conservative and methodical release approach. They don’t want unnecessary bad press from the first few units because some “green bean” put the mini-bar on their hacked up DIY flybarless 450 heli consequently generating poor results that would be time consuming and unnecessary…hence the disclaimer. Surely this will happen after the public release, but there’s no logical reason to open the door for this during a pre-release.

For this reason, I would be surprised if anyone who legitimately said they intend to put the mini-bar on a 450 series machine or smaller actually got a pre-release unit. That’s only an assumption on my part because I registered fairly early and told them I intended to install it on a Mini Titan with a Gaui head. Needless to say, I was bypassed. No worries.

I’ve been a part of the flybarless scene since Skookum opened the door to the “common folk” with a flybarless product that emptied the bank, but didn’t break it. Many of us early adopters paid dearly for it too. It took 3 replacements/upgrades and lots of crash parts to get all the bugs worked out but they persisted and made it right, much to their credit! Given that experience, I’m content to sit back and not force the process.

Generating enthusiasm and keeping people content is a tough balance. This is why “big box” companies will rarely show you new products until they are done. Lack of contentment can lead to resentment which is the risk any manufacturer takes when leaking details of upcoming products.

Let’s refocus our enthusiasm and get back to positive anticipation, leaving the little details, delays and whining in the past. Fortunately. we all get to participate in the next generation of our hobby and help pave the road for future advancements. Sit back and participate in the ride!

I don't intend to buy one even after they let us less than loyal customers have them.

600 bucks for me to put one on a 450 is TOO MUCH.

I don't have a laptop and that means I'd need to buy the LCD as well.

I only have one small heli the rest are 700mms and if I decided I want to use it on a another bigger heli it's not doable.

I have no problem with the VBar other than it's a tough fit on anything from 450 down. But the Mini has too many limitations to make me want one. Even the fact that you can do away with the RX doesn't warrant the almost 500 dollar price tag since it can only be used in a heli that Costs about that much to begin with.

Ooops, I spoke too soon. My Mini-Bar will be here tomorrow.

QQ - We'll miss you at the Mini-Bar...

QQ - Go long and get a netbook instead of the LCD. They can be had for 250 bucks, but you get 500 bucks worth of "value". That would put your theoretical Mini-Bar purchase price at only 225 bucks. See, my easy math works too...

I've had one in hand since Friday. Known issues (all solved):

There was an issue with bank switching when using one (or two) Spektrum/JR satellites; we've worked through that with Uli in Germany. Do an online update to 4.0.18. That is the only change in .18.

Some of the CDs (for the PC software) have empty directories. Just download from the vstabi.de website.

Other thoughts:

It is SMALL. Setup was easy. Binding is via the PC software (Check a box, then power cycle, then TX bind like anything else).

I've already updated the file comparison tool for the new registers (that tool is over on another forum that tends to freak Mark out).

I haven't flown it yet. Driving to IRCHA at the moment (well, my dear wife is driving, I'm typing and playing with the Mini-V).

If they'd work with an Iphone or a Blackberry I'd be happy. I don't want a cheapo 250 notebook that doesn't even have an internal disc drive for 250. And the last two laptops I had got stolen from my truck so if I can't put it my pocket it stays home.

I'm going to get me an Inertia Axiom instead which I'm sure will be an improvement over the Skookum / Spartan I've been flying. And if I like it on my 90 I'll get another for my TRex 450. Both for less than the price of cheap notebook Minibar combo. Plus my first born will safe until the credit card bill comes due
