BEEN WORKING ON THE VERTICAL FINS,

When i bought the model they were cracked, and I managed t help them crack further, Bell BLoke calls me captain hangar rash, ha ha

well we took them off and made them more hangar rash friendly.

Easily detachable.

The point of that little exercise with spinning the turbine was to show that it was not spinning freely enough due to slight flaw in the compressor retaining nut that would have been there from when the kit was new. A little bit of machine work and all was as it should be.

you can't go to the mhc comp with wet paint

then again i haven't yet got a flying scale model
unless i use the 450 ec135 in full scale artwork
full scale lipo cockpit
with true to vario scale tail control (or lack of)
and if i add a cc ice esc it can have a true to scale onboard fire

and if i go full scale
i'll get 100% for static as a raptor 90 can't be anything less than true to scale

probably wont be there mate,

i am doing a wedding the night before, cooking for 200 people plus,
i was away this weekend down at Bells, so it would be well unfair to miss another weekend with the family to have 2 flights on a heli 3 hrs drive away.

just too busy with family commitments, just as i get really confident on the machine.

Never mind family far more important than toy helicopters.
ha ha he sys through gritted teeth

Hi Folks, just in case you were thinkin' what a crap finish that is where the vertical fin meets the horizontal one. We did not have the right paint or colour, time was pressing and so I only wanted to feather the paint by 1cm into the horizontal fin just in case it pickled, so this is why as you can see there are some bad finishes here.

Another successful year.
Missed first place in 1 event by 4 points, so getting there.

Longranger now being serviced, I am hoping to build a new cockpit facia, I am waiting for some more bits to come from Czechoslovakia
and then I can start on a new facia and over head pannel.

Have been working on my longranger, as the weather has been poor here.
The roof of cockpit has always been bear, with just a couple of switches for the lights and fadec.

I have orderd some more bits and bobs from the propag team in czech republic.

Regards

Matt

did a 30 hr tail gear check
here is a video of bell inspecting my tail gear box just to be sure all is well after 30 hrs of flight this year.

Had some Pm's asking about the cockpit and how it was going.
I got the bits from the propag team in czech republic.

Modified some of them, then started work on a new front facia, I kept it simple and most of the main facia remains the same untouched.
Still have a little more work to do on it, but am waiting for the pant to dry before I make some frames for the radio and the EFIS.

Thanks to Dave for his endless cups of tea and cheese on toast!

Have added the latest fadec from Ixocoy onto the longranger whilst it was on down time.
I made the mistake of letting the start up run for a long time on just gas as fuel solenoid had gone kerput.
I have been flying it fine until jan/feb this year and I was getting a real drag on start up as if my battery just did not have enough oomph to turn over the starter motor, well I run a 3650 lypo with high C rating.
So a phone call to Wren and a chat with Mike who suggested change the starter motor.
I did and all was fine for a couple of hrs, then it re appeared.
so I decided to take the turbine out and inspect the internals as after doing a data download I noticed the temp had reached over 1000C hence the reason turbine shut down.

I noticed there was no pre load on the spring so something was causing the bearings to lock up on the turbine shaft, after looking at the shaft closely I noticed a burr on the shaft, and the bearings were notchy where I had cooked them so via a video link with BellBloke I used emery cloth and lightly took it off and replaced the bearings and re assembled.

All was fine for another 2 hrs and the bearings again were sticking as if the oil that was left on them from the last run was just burning on the bearings and gumming them up, so it meant the starter motor did not have enough oomph to turn over the turbine.

I did an engine prime and I could hear the motor gradually turning the turbine and it slowly freed up to a full run.
But after leaving it for an hour or so the bearings then gummed up again.
In the end as I had taken this turbine apart twice already I phoned Wren as all I could come up with along with Dave who I also discussed it with, was it was a fuelling/lube problem NOT mechanical, so the last thing to change was the restrictor, well Wren agreed and I ordered 2 new restrictors which are newer and slightly bigger than the existing one. WOW what a difference, it bursts into life, shuts down and re starts, now all is well.

So it was worth the taking apart and chatting to others to get to the bottom of it.

Mine is all sorted now, glad by process of elimination after taking it apart twice I finally found the issue.. that's the benefit of being able to take it apart without having to send it back to manufacturer, I can get to the bottom of issue, no messing about!

Still flies beautifully and smooth despite the gusty wind..
Once the new fadec has done the 5 hr rule i will open it up alot more and fly further out.

a couple of the latest videos,
I won 2nd place in the Len Mount Scale comp, and 3rd Place in the club scale event.

So total now of 7 trophies in 2 yrs of scale comp, 4 comps done in that time.In all comps I was competiting against more than 10 flyers.

Watch at YouTube

Despite illness and family stuff, have had a good year, After talking at length with Len Mount who advised me i missed out first place by 3 points due to not banking my turns, i kept them flat, trouble with flying with a camera at times on my predator wren, i keep my turns flat,
he also commented on the scale cockpit detail how improved it was over last year, so all in all i just need to put some better scale manouvers together..

Worthy advice i thought.
