I have 2 of these old heli's in pieces , enough to make one good one. I'd kind of like to put it together ,but I'm afraid to fly it because it breaks very ez and there are not many parts out there to be had.

The heli flies really easy and has a slow headspeed I would say to fly it in a gym or somewere indoors to get her dialed incheck out the vid in my gallery.

The tracking keeps changing on mine. Is there something that I don't know about these? I've built about a dozen helis and have never had this problem before.

I got mine sometime in the early 90's . And I've never really got to fly it much because I kept breaking parts , and the gyro I got at the time I could never get to work so whenever I did put it in the air it was with no gyro. So as you might guess I thought it was hard to fly.

Any how I was trying to set it up with some newer new electronics "gyro ,servos ,rx and battery" I broke the pitch slider . I think I may just be jinxed when it comes to this old bird . lucky I think I have another one , but what will I break trying to install that ?

By the way. Do you guy's have your's setup with any negative pitch ?

I remember way back around 1992 was the first time i saw an electric heli flying and it was the Kalt Whisper. It realy impresed me then but i never had one or flew one. Ahh, them was the days!

If it doesnt move and its meant too... use WD 40. If it moves and its not meant too...use duct tape!

I have a Whisper but I couldn't get it to lift off. It was underpowered. I dont remember which batteries I was using. I might try again with a 3s1p pack .

they would bearly lift off on a 6 cell pack . I ran mine with 7 or 8 cell packs ,but did not get much flight time and crashed alot from running it with no gyro in the wind.

Which model Dillon progressive reloader do you have :-)
Couldn't help notice the Dillon box. Expensive but great stuff.

What do you think you might want for the Whisper heli/parts? PM me with the answers please. Don't know why I'm interested but maybe my screen name gives a clue

Thanks!

Here is the Whisper he is talking about.

I put some MS carbon blades on it too to improved efficiency.

Regardless my restoration went quite well and I am happy.

Just did an 'accidental' maiden on my own Kalt Whisper restoration tonight!

I was going to just do a controls check and motor run up out in the yard, but when I was playing with the rudder a bit, I decided to increase throttle to see if the higher RPMs increased the rudder 'bite', even though it was already clearly light on the skids, and all I can say is that this baby WANTS to fly! It took off so gently I just could not bring myself to slam the throttle closed even though I haven't trimmed it, set the gyro gains, or final checked all the wiring etc yet.

After about ten well-mannered seconds in the air, the yard was starting to look awfully small, so I set 'er down to prep her for a true longer maiden in the park later this week, but man, this is one sweet little heli!

She is actually one of those Johny Cash Specials "One piece at a time" mixture of three or four other people's wrecks, taking the still decent left-over bits and pieces, but somehow when it all gets put together, I think it looks pretty darn good! If tonight's all too brief hop was any indication, she will fly that way, too!

I've even flown a Kalt Wisper inverted, now that was back in 1992 when we had parts.

Wow -- inverted?!?!

I think it only says to put in a total of -3 degrees neg pitch of flight mode for the 'acro' set up! That was pretty bold to fly inverted!

Well, I tried to maiden mine and crunched it. Impetuosity got me -- I knew right from the git-go that the tail did not have enough authority (trying to use an Eflite gyro and a non-name tail servo, through the long linkage to the front...but the gyro never did seem to 'hook' correctly. So, when I put it back together, I'll borrow my Futaba 9257 and 401 servo and gyro combo from a 450 heli, and mount the servo on the boom, and then we will see (while staying on the pad this time!) if that combo will wake up the tail, even with the slow RPM this guy wants to launch at...

I think I have enough spares to fix this crash, but that's about it... in fact, if anyone has Whisper parts, or a whole heli you'd like to dispose of, please do PM me, and let's chew the fat.

In particular I could really use a 44008 white plastic gear, mine is missing a chunk from before the crash, and even though it runs good and sounds good, I worry. I moved the mating gear to run on as much of the non damaged part of the gear as I can.

Also, a 43013 pitch slide ring is always nice to have -- I have mine rigged to work fine now, but having the complete part would be nice.

Anyway, I'll soon put it back in the air... I'll use my old canopy and old tail boom this time, just in case of trouble, but this old dame seems to have pretty mild habits IF you will listen to what she is telling you (i.e no tail control!)

I have some older nitro birds that need attention, so if I crunch it again, then I'll park it until I build up some spares and some more skill! Getting parts for the old Nitro Kalts seems to still be a piece of cake, but the Whisper stock is getting more scarce.

I even caught my folly on video (well, mostly. Still ironing out hatcam, too! I got the noobie blues! )

That's pretty cool! Must have been neat to be wringing these out, when they were brand new to everyone, and on the leading edge of what hasa become the electric revolution!

While I was sleeping last night, I think it came to me why my own Whisper had virtually no tail control... dadgummed motor speed is too slow in normal mode when it lifts off.

So, to test that theory in first flight once I rebuild it, I flattened out my pitch curve to almost no pos pitch for the first 25% of collective, but I use that same 25% travel to run the up head speed to 100%, almost like flight mode.

I think Ecogator said that his own Kalt Whisper original FET 'speed controller' only had two modes as a practical matter -- ON and OFF -- and that is what made me hit on this (probably rather obvious to everyone else?) conclusion...

Am I crazy to believe this?
