Anybody remember the Kalt whisper.I had one of those and man have they come a long way with the electrics. It had a very large brushed motor and I was using the best batteries money could buy at the time 1100 mah SR 8 cell nicad packs they were very heavy for the little bird but it did fly. It was very fragile and allways broke up bad in a crash.

Yes I do! Thats what I learned to fly heli's with. I got them back in 1995 at a hobby shop new in the box 2 for $200. Now all I have of them is parts, and a few old vid's of my flying around back in 2000. Parts was getting hard to come by so I had to move on to the ECO 8.

Take care!

Like a moth to the flame or Whisper to the Light
First electric I ever touched. One of the whispers JC Z has is the one. I put it on the workbench. Didn't know jack about arming the ESC. Plugged in the big battery pack and Pow!!!! Sky'd it right into the overhead flourescent light, what a show and mess. Thank goodness for TREX 450's, now I am not such a noob.

Thanks buddy. I will have to get some video's of them flying. But just to busy. I havn't flown them in about 6 months. The Batteriers are not very good anymore...

And those packs are still very expensive. Even compaired to Li-po

There is a Kalt Whisper on E-bay Right now.

Hovering around Atlanta

My Posts: All  Forum  Topic

First R/C heli I flew indoors...
Back in late 1992, our heli club, "Montgomery County Model Helicopter Association" was meeting in the back room of a local hobby shop. At the ending of the official business, the chairs were moved back and into a large circle. Scott Rigby, owner of the Wheaton Hardware Store and distributor of Kalt stuff, brought his Whisper into the room for any member to try out. The feeling was somewhat claustrophobic as there was no place to hide if something were to go wrong. But I took the transmitter in hand and gave the bird a little hover, nervously.

It was pretty cool but I didn't think it handled all that steady. Seems the factory links had lots of play and Scott discovered that by heating the white links with a match they would shrink and fit closer on the balls - a little too close in some cases. Now the friction in the links made the pilot have to actually work harder to hold the machine in one place. Just a little FYI there...

I currently have at least four Whispers and parts. One mechanics set goes into the Kalt AH1 Cobra fuse and is really cute! Been looking for one of these for many years. Maybe it will fly soon...

So many heli's - too little time...

IMHO the main thing holding the whisper back was the large nicad packs we had to run on them back in the 80s. Has anybody tried to run lipos on their machines????

I've got one and I've flown it with two 3 cell lipos in parallel. I have trouble with keeping it in track though. Might be the wood blades. If anyone is interested in it PM me, I have an extra frame and some other extra parts.

Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about!

Yes, it works fine. The full charge voltage on the NICAD is pretty close to the same as the lipo. I'm using the stock esc too but I had to make a home made battery holder out of aluminum to hold the lipos.

I made that out of some slotted aluminum from work. It's nylon tied to the skid supports. I sized it to hold two 2100 mah 3 cell lipos so I can run them in parrelel.
Works pretty well.
