I've got a Nikon D-70 that has a gazillion shots on it. (There's probably a way to look it up in the camera's memory.. if I knew how).

It is getting a bit balky... like when I turn it on, it doesn't want to record the first shot that it takes, sometimes the flash will fire but the shutter will not, etc.

Does anybody have any experience with sending in this generation of digital camera for overhaul? Does the cost typically exceed what I could buy a new camera for? Are the results from such an overhaul meaningful, or do they just clean it up.... and it continues to give problems?

Yes... I'm a Luddite. I've had many models of mechanical Nikons overhauled over the years, with very favorable results... I just don't know about these digital beasts...

Those are odd problems. You can check online, and see if the camera as the newest firmware. If not, then download the newest firmware, and that might help. If you still have problems, give nikon a call.

Rhett..... I can't fly, but the Profi sure can.

The shutter releases (Camera actuations) info is stored in the EXIF data.

There is the EXIF Viewer app for Mac that shows the extended exif data, I am sure there is one for windoze as well.
