What would you consider and why? Does the 6102 have more fine tuning ability? Like a DX7.

My friend just bought one of these, and it is just about identical to my JRX6102. His is of course 2.4ghz though.

Im wondering if it is possible to have my JR6102 fixed for running 2.4? Im sure the inside gutz would need to have surgery, but Is it possible?

Im a JR fan, so I don't want a spectrum radio, except for thwe 2.4

True... You could just pick up a DX7. Nice radio as well.
If you're really into the feel of the JR's though, another option, and one I'm going to go with is the Assan setup...

The X8D 'Hack' Module will work with any radio that uses a PPM board. Pretty much an identical install to swapping in the DX6 module.
The 6ch 2.4G Assan Receivers are priced very nicely too.

I'm going this way for the convenience of keeping the JR 'feel' with my 6102, and also the cost. Family of 6 on one median income makes things TIGHT these days, but hey... I gotta play too!!!

A buddy of mine gave me a JR6102 with the spectrum 2.4 modulare built into the radio, including the short antenna as well.

Im eager to try this radio out, but I still need a RX to complete this set up. He told me he used this raido many times with flawless experiences on Nitro 50 size helis, and planks.

What do you guys think, would you trust this kind of set up, or not?(the friend is a reliable pilot here on rr, and in the Houston Flying clubs as well.

What rx would you set it up with, as I have Hirobo Lepton EX on the way, and want to use the 2.4 for better control features. I still love my 72 mgz though, and will never stop using it, as it is also flawless as well.

I'm not an expert, but I do a LOT of reading.
The 2.4Ghz stuff is definitely a HUGE leap forward over the stuff we've had for the past couple of decades. The absence of glitches and any other interference, extended TX battery life, NO CRYSTALS, etc make it a winner in pretty much every aspect. Only downside is, it doesn't work with any of the 27Mhz/72Mhz RX's many fliers already have.
One thing to make sure of before you buy an RX... None of the 2.4Ghz systems are cross compatible. Make sure yours is an actual Spektrum brand before you purchase the receiver.
I'm going to guess that your buddy used the Spektrum component from a DX6. It's a pretty common mod/hack although I hate to use the term 'Hack' when it comes to stuff like this!
From everything I've read, it's a rock solid conversion, with NO downsides.

Enjoy!! Soon as my 6102 gets here from my buddy, I'm going to order the Assan 2.4Ghz 'Hack' module. I don't have any current 'Old school' RX's to replace, so I'm going to start the reentry into RC with all 2.4Ghz gear.

Enjoy!!

Ok, I just split the case on this radio, and Im seeing a big "t" shaped board offset from the main board. There is also to wires running to a small square board mounted to the rear case. The back case has a square hole drilled for the green bind button , And of course the antenna.

I have what is in these pictures
