Hi

Just had the scorpion 90amp fail in flight after 8 flights. No hard flying. Went from idle up to normal to land and it smoked out on me. Hard landing nothing major broken U/C etc..

Has anyone else experienced a scorpion esc failure so soon?

Any comments welcome!

I did not have the ESC go out on me, but I had a motor with a warped shaft. I sent it to inovative and they replaced the motor for free. I'd imagine as long as you set it up following the instructions (no custom wiring jobs) they would repair or replace it under their warranty. I've had nothing but good dealings with inovative.

I had one fail 10secs into it's 5th battery pack. Didn't smoke, just quit working. Did an auto from about 5 feet, so no other damage.
Now I cannot hear the programming beeps when I tried to reset it to factory defaults, no beeps at all. The led does blink.

The motor I was using was a Scorpion 3026-1400 w/15T revco pinion.

2 hovering flights by myself and 2 3D flights by a friend. Had just dialed in the Spartan DS760 gyro, and then........&#@#$&@%

Am planning to upgrade to a Kontronik Jive 80HV which is said to work with the 10-pole 1400 motor.

It looks like I'm not the only one to have such problems.

Hi Guys

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post.

I've managed to return the unit under warranty to the shop, which is good news.. In addition I've gone for an Align 100 amp ESC and I've also taken the opportunity to try out the 600XL 1700kv motor so I'll keep you informed.

My only concern for the Scorpion ESC is that the circuit board etc.. doesn't appear to be well protected. It's just shrinkwrap, whereas the Align ESC appears to be more robust. Also the cooling fins appear to be a bit on the small side for a 90amper.

My 75amp ESC lasted 270ish flights and the scorpion only 8.

Not too sure if I should have taken the credit from the shop instead of a replacement scorpion ESC if they're not up to scratch.

The scorpion ESC hasn't filled me with confidence with it failing in flight. I don't mind crashing if it's my own stupid fault but to have it go in due to component failure is frustrating. I didn't pick up fast enough that the ESC had died and I let the headspeed decay too much. The smoke should have been a clue looking back in hindsight.
